Sometimes we tell ourselves we’ll reach out when things get worse.
When we can’t handle it anymore.
When we’re certain we need help.
When it becomes a crisis.
But you don’t have to wait.
Changes in mood, behavior, relationships, sleep, or daily functioning can all be reasons to pause and check in with yourself or someone you care about.
If you’re worried about someone, it’s okay to ask directly how they’re doing. You won’t make things worse by showing that you care.
And if you’re struggling, reaching out to a mental health professional can be a way to get support before you reach a breaking point.
You don’t need to have the right words. You don’t need to know exactly what’s wrong.
You just need to take the first step.
