Everyone deserves to have their boundaries respected. Drinking never makes sexual violence your fault.

The start of the fall semester is often called the “Red Zone,” a time when college students face a higher risk of sexual assault.

Consent means everyone freely agrees to what’s happening and can change their mind at any time. Someone who is asleep, unconscious, or too impaired to understand what’s happening cannot consent.

While the official 2021 figure of 11,582 reported sexual offenses is a benchmark, experts estimate that the true number of assaults on campuses is far higher due to underreporting.

If you or a loved one is headed to college: Know your rights and the campus resources available. Set and respect boundaries in all relationships. Trust your instincts and seek help if something feels wrong. Support prevention efforts by attending workshops, volunteering, and advocating for policy changes.
