Do you recognize yourself in this story?

I can take the vacation.

I just need to carry a 40-pound backpack the whole time. 😂

Lately I’ve realized I somehow confused being hardworking with believing everything worthwhile has to be hard.

Rest had to be earned.
Success required sacrifice.
Being good at something meant doing enough of it to become exhausted.

I come from hardworking people, and there’s so much about that legacy I’m proud to carry.

But I’m ready to put down the belief that effort and exhaustion are evidence of worthiness.

And I wonder how many of us carry that belief in our bodies, too.

Shoulders that never quite drop.
Clenched jaws.
Held breath.
A body that’s technically resting while something inside whispers, Not yet. There’s more to do.

Maybe we don’t always need to push harder or get better at coping.

Maybe sometimes the work is learning that it’s safe to soften.

To receive.

To let something be good without earning it first.

I’m experimenting with that now.

Less proving. More receiving.

And maybe enjoying the damn view without the ridiculously heavy backpack. 😉

I am increasingly convinced that a good life is built from noticing.

A tomato that actually tastes like a tomato.
Flaky salt.
The weight of an old brass spoon in your hand.
The particular red that only seems to exist in August.

Not everything meaningful needs to become a lesson, a practice, or a pathway to becoming a better version of ourselves.

Sometimes the invitation is simply:

Be here enough to taste your own life.

I think that counts as being Well Rooted, too.

This corner of my kitchen feels like me.

A little old. A little collected. A little unexpected.

Copper beside black. Brass beside wood. A single variegated vine making its way exactly as it pleases. Things gathered over time rather than chosen to match.

I think that may be what I love most about it.

Nothing here feels overly curated, and yet it all belongs.

Maybe that is part of what being well rooted means to me now: not making everything uniform, polished, or easy to explain—but trusting that the things we are drawn to, the things we have lived with, the things we have carried forward, can create their own kind of coherence.

I have always been someone who learns through experience, follows what catches my attention, changes things, lives with them, changes them again. This corner feels like evidence of that.

It reminds me that a life can be layered without being chaotic.

That contrast can create beauty.

That belonging does not require sameness.

And that sometimes the most honest spaces are the ones that have simply been allowed to become themselves.
