It is with great thought, prayers, and journaling that today I make a decision with the trajectory of my career path.
My battle with severe postpartum depression is what led me here - into birthwork, working as a postpartum doula. But it’s also through doulaing that led me into the medical field where I’m currently at. I thought I’d take a brief pause while I focus on my current occupation, but after journaling this morning, I realize maybe doulaing was just a stepping stone where God wants me.
I worked vigorously to get more clients, to expand my brand, and network monthly with amazing people in our local community, but it was never enough. It was never enough to bring me new clients, to doula full time or even part time consistently. I did everything in my power to work hard in getting my packet ready for certification and it took months for any review of it to be done. I made recommended changes to it and submitted it for a second review. Then that took months for a response. That day was when I looked at things and saw my doula work wasn’t flourishing like I hoped, but things at my job were blooming. I’ve received compliments from patients I’ve never seen before that helped solidify where God wants me. It’s like He was communicating with me about what decision He wanted for me.
I’ve learned in recent months that if I have to work too hard for something, it’s probably not meant to be. Doulaing is something I’ve worked so hard on, and I’m still not certified and I even quit my previous job in the hopes of making it all come true and it still didn’t. It is now 2 years later since I started on this path. I don’t know why nor understand what God’s plans are for me, but it is becoming more prevalent that He doesn’t want me doulaing long term.
I know my passion lies with serving others and being a mental health advocate to those struggling. I don’t fully understand what this looks like, but I can say, I’ve never felt truly happy at any job nor enjoyed it as much as I have as a medical assistant. As hesitant as I was to post all this, I felt a push from God this morning that I needed to post this.
The birth community needs more mental health advocates and I’d be happy to continue in this role in whatever way possible. I still paint birth, breastfeeding, and postpartum designs, so I’m not stopping. If anyone is interested in connecting with me still, I’m more than happy to chat and meet up 🙂
I will never stop reminding others how much they matter because we are all here for a reason 🩵🫶🏻
