To the mom with postpartum depression…

I know this isn’t what you expected.

You thought you’d be soaking in every moment. Feeling grateful. Feeling connected. Feeling like yourself.

Instead, some days feel heavy.

You go through the motions. You care for your baby. You show up. You do what needs to be done.

But inside, you feel exhausted, overwhelmed, numb, lost… or maybe just unlike yourself.

And then comes the guilt.

The guilt for not enjoying it more.
The guilt for struggling.
The guilt for feeling anything other than happiness.

But postpartum depression is not a reflection of how much you love your baby.

It is not a reflection of your strength.
And it is not a reflection of the kind of mother you are.

You are not failing.

You are carrying something incredibly heavy while still showing up every day.

And that deserves compassion, not criticism.

If this is where you are right now, please know this:

We see you.
We hear you.
And you do not have to go through it alone.

Healing doesn’t happen overnight, but reaching out can be where it begins. 💜

• Meet a Milky Mom Monday •

Today we’re highlighting Crystal — one of the friendly faces helping keep Milky Moms running smoothly behind the scenes. 💜

Crystal provides essential administrative support for both providers and families, assisting with insurance verification, billing, claims processing, invoicing, and helping families navigate paperwork and coverage questions in a way that feels clear and stress-free.

She also loves collaborating on family events throughout the year and helping develop new ways to engage families through both Milky Moms and our nonprofit, Start Strong Inc.

Outside of work, Crystal enjoys writing and reading poetry, gardening, and spending time outdoors.

We’re so grateful for everything Crystal brings to our team and the families we serve 💜

Preparing for a newborn comes with a lot of questions — and you shouldn’t have to figure it all out alone. 💜

Our Newborn Care Class is designed to help parents and caregivers feel more prepared and confident before baby arrives.

Topics include:
• Diapering & feeding
• Signs of illness
• Circumcision care
• Newborn sleep education
• Vaccine education & newborn testing
• What to expect during the first 48 hours in the hospital
• How to calm a fussy baby
• What’s normal… and what’s not

Because sometimes the smallest questions can feel the biggest in those early newborn days. 💜

A few weeks ago we shared some photos from the College of Southern Maryland's nursing pinning ceremony- where our founders, Dr. Laura Behm and Dr. Lea Lacefield, had the honor of speaking to the graduating class. Sharing not only their journey as nurse practitioners and founders of Milky Moms, but also the importance of perseverance, growth, and lifelong learning.

Their message focused on resilience, growth, and the reality that learning doesn’t stop after graduation — something that resonates deeply in both nursing and motherhood.

We’re incredibly proud of them both for representing Milky Moms and supporting the next generation of nurses as they begin this exciting new chapter.

Congratulations again to all of the graduates!

Pool days with a baby can mean lots of feeding breaks — and that’s completely normal.

Babies may want to nurse more often at the pool because they’re:
• hot or thirsty
• overstimulated
• tired
• needing comfort or reassurance
• simply reconnecting in a busy environment

Breastfeeding is about so much more than food. For many babies, it’s also comfort, hydration, regulation, and connection.

And yes — breastfeeding at the pool is absolutely okay.

You never need to hide, leave, or feel uncomfortable for feeding your baby. 💜

"Watch the baby, not the clock" means watching closely to see your little one's early feeding cues (such as turning their head or rooting) instead of trying to feed on a set schedule. Your baby may nurse every 2-3 hours (like books say!) or more frequently which is also very normal. @
