If your late-diagnosis journey feels messy, you are not doing it wrong. 🧠🔄

When people talk about adult ADHD or Autism diagnoses, they often frame it as a quick, linear arc:

Undiagnosed ➡️ Diagnosis ➡️ Instant Relief ➡️ Happy Life

In reality? It looks much more like a loop.

You might feel deep relief on Monday, heavy grief for your childhood on Wednesday, imposter syndrome on Friday, and acceptance by Sunday.

Grief after a late diagnosis is complex because you aren't just mourning a single loss—you're mourning:

🎓 Academic or career opportunities missed without accommodations.
💬 Friendships or relationships strained by burnout and masking.
🛑 The physical energy spent running on adrenaline and shame just to keep up.

Feeling angry, sad, or overwhelmed after getting diagnosed isn't "dwelling on the past." It's how your brain processes decades of internalized shame. In neuro-affirming therapy, we don't rush you past the grief.

We hold space for the mourning so you can rebuild a life that actually fits your brain.

The diagnosis is just the beginning. 🧠

Receiving an ADHD diagnosis in your 30s or 40s brings an overwhelming flood of relief. Finally, a framework that explains why simple things felt so inexplicably heavy for so long!

But once the initial relief settles, a complex emotional wave often rolls in:
Grief for your younger self who worked twice as hard just to stay afloat.
Anger at the systems, schools, or providers who missed the signs.
Confusion as you try to untangle your real personality from decades of masking and perfectionism.

If you are currently sitting in the middle of that post-diagnosis identity shift, hear this: You are not failing at having ADHD. You are untangling decades of internalized shame. In my practice, we don't try to force your brain into a neurotypical mold. We process the grief, accommodate your nervous system, and build a life that honors how you actually operate.

You don’t have to have all the answers before starting therapy.

Sometimes healing begins with simply giving yourself permission to be curious about your story. Together, therapy can help you explore what you’ve carried, understand what shaped you, and build a life that feels more aligned with who you are today.

Healing isn’t about becoming someone new, it’s about coming home to yourself.

If you were diagnosed with ADHD (or started suspecting it) later in life, you spent years perfecting the art of "passing" as neurotypical.

You learned to stay quiet when you were sensory overloaded.

You learned to use panic and shame to meet deadlines.

You learned to apologize for existing every time your brain needed something different.

Unmasking isn't about becoming a different person—it’s about letting the real you out of the pressure cooker.

When we work together in therapy, the goal isn't to force your brain into a neurotypical mold. It’s to unlearn the belief that your needs are an inconvenience.

Unmasking takes time, safety, and a lot of self-compassion, but on the other side is a life that actually feels good to live.

If you were diagnosed with ADHD in your 20s, 30s, or 40s, you didn't just inherit a diagnosis—you inherited decades of internalized shame. Affirming therapy isn't about teaching you to mask harder or force yourself into a planner that worked for someone else. It's about shedding the belief that you are broken. Myth 2: Any fat person can become thin if they try hard enough. Its just a matter of ‘calories in, calories out’.” Preparing for meeting 2 of Therapist Book Club & Consult. Still in awe of everyone who showed up and discussed anti-fatness in the context of the therapy world.

I’ll be leading a Therapist Book Club & Consult group for the following 4 months where we’ll focus on Fatphobia in the therapeutic setting. I am incredibly honored to be joined by 13 fellow practitioners who answered the call to examine their beliefs, biases and learn how to show up for their clients in new, affirming ways.
