Actually, nothing happens if you don’t go. No one comes to your house to bring you in or arrest you. They might call to reschedule. They might not.

•Shorten length of labor?
Yes! Up to 25% by helping reduce stress hormones and utilizing movements and positioning.
•Only for home births?
No! Hospital birthers need doulas just as much if not more than home birthers!
•Decrease c-section rates?
Yes! By 28-39% in clinical trials!
•Only for people who want “natural” labor?
No! Doulas support inductions, epidurals, even C-sections. If you’re giving birth, you can have a doula.
•Decrease rates of interventions?
Yes! 31-40% reduction in Pitocin use, and roughly 10% decrease in requests for epidurals and other pain medications!
•Guarantee a good outcome?
No! Nothing is guaranteed, but having a doula certainly stacks the odds in your favor statistically!
•Increase birth satisfaction?
Yes! 69% increase in rating the birth experience positively!
•Increase breastfeeding success?
Yes! Up to 97.9% breastfeeding initiation in doula supported births compared to about 80% in the general population!
•Only for hippies and crunchy moms?
No! Doulas support super crunchy stay at home moms, as well as medical minded business savvy career women, and every mom in between. Doulas are becoming more mainstream and no longer seen as “alternative”!
•Decrease rates of postpartum mood disorders?
Yes! Reduces the odds of postpartum depression and anxiety by over 50%!
