Northern Star Doula

Northern Star Doula Everyone should have a doula if they want one. As doulas, we believe wholeheartedly that the birth experience is something that will always be remembered.

Not only for the circumstances alone, but for the ways one felt supported. Everyone has a different set of wishes and circumstances surrounding their births. Birth is not one-size-fits-all. A doula's main priority is to see to it that you feel safe, understood, comforted, cared for and respected throughout the entire process. The Birth Support package includes:

Complimentary consultation

Prenatal preparation visits either in-person or via Zoom

Unlimited email and phone support throughout the pregnancy and immediately postpartum

Birth preference (plan) assistance

Informational support and resources during the prenatal period

Continuous hands-on physical and emotional support during birth

Comfort techniques such as breathing, positioning, visualization, focal points, counter-pressure and light touch massage

A calm reassuring presence

Partner/Sibling support

Assistance with initial latch, if desired

One postpartum visit

If you want an unmedicated birth, preparation matters.

Not just a Pinterest birth plan.
Not just hoping for the right nurse on the right shift.
Not just crossing your fingers that your provider “lets” you labor naturally.

Preparation looks like:
• Choosing a provider who is actually skilled in supporting physiological birth
• Taking a quality childbirth education class
• Hiring a doula
• Understanding informed consent and your options
• Watching normal birth instead of only medicalized birth portrayals
• Surrounding yourself with people who believe birth is something women are capable of

Birth is physical, mental, emotional, and absolutely environmental.

Your provider matters.
Your support team matters.
Your education matters.
Your environment matters.

The women who prepare for birth differently often experience birth differently.

This is how we improve birth outcomes.

Sad news. I’ve attended many births here over the years, as a Doula. I have so much to say, but all I can say is damn. And I’m so sorry to the displaced expectant families, the Midwives, Nurses, Educators, and admin. I hope everyone finds their place — families and LCW staff alike. If anyone needs support finding alternative care, I’m here to help. Whether that’s pivoting to the hospital you weren’t expecting to go to, deciding on another birth center that’s a longer drive than you were originally ok with, or deciding you’ll birth at home. Reach out if you need some guidance, whatever that looks like. If I can’t directly support you, I can sure point you to someone you can. ♥️

Update!!!

A birth doula is a companion who supports a birthing person during labor and birth. What is the evidence for using a doula?

They changed their tune eh? Interesting. 🤔

Vintage glass “breast pump” dug up by one of my husband’s friends. At least that’s what we think it is. He found it in his back yard as they were doing construction work and gave it to him to give to me. Neat. I’m curious as to how old it is and how this works exactly - so I’m going to fall down the rabbit hole now.
