For years, I never let anyone actually be a part of my healing journey. I let people observe, but never support. I was too afraid of being a burden. I was too afraid of shattering someone the way I had been. About five months ago, someone asked to be a part of my journey and be allowed to show me what a healthy relationship is like. I was definitely skeptical at first. I didn’t hesitate to warn them that I felt like they were wasting their time. I warned they that I was afraid of hurting them. They kept letting me know they weren’t scared and that they were there. At first, I only let them show up by being there when I needed a hug. They still showed up. In any way that I let them, they showed up. They haven’t hesitated to communicate that they care. They show grace in every capacity they can with my healing journey, even when I ask for the millionth time “Are we ok?”. Something that they say that will forever ring clear in my mind is “You deserve to be cared about.” I have seen the most growth when I have known that I am cared about and that I am not alone. You aren’t meant to heal alone. You deserve to be cared about. ♥️

A gentle response to text I sent stating I wanted to cry… I was ready to head to a meeting that I felt the need to be at. I was ready to go. Hair and makeup done. Just needed to grab my keys. My emotions, in a matter of seconds, gave way. All I could do was cry in the moment. After helping me mentally and emotionally prep for this meeting, I just couldn’t. Knowing I endured some recent trials without telling anyone, she gently validated the need to cry, but gently reminding me to drink water to avoid dehydration later. She understood that, in that moment, I didn’t need to be told it was ok. I need to be reminded it was ok to feel. I used to always say “It’s ok to not be ok.” I want to add to that mantra. It’s ok to not be ok, but it’s also ok to feel, especially in those moments.♥️

Lesson 1 I learned from my Grandmother:

One of the biggest lessons I learned from her, don’t be afraid to say “I love you.” She told me every chance she got. I follow her example and tell everyone in my life “I love you” to make sure that they know and I never know what will be my last opportunity to tell them, so why wait? Also, what if I am the only one telling them?? If it hadn’t been for my grandmother, I would have lost my battle to depression a lot sooner.

Today, I have been attempting to process some things…. If you had asked me what healing was like two years ago. I would have compared it to climbing a ladder. I don’t think it’s a ladder anymore, but it definitely feels sometimes one slip up puts you back at square one. It’s hard sometimes. It often feels in the moment that slip up discredits the all the work up to that one point. It can be discouraging and frustrating. Sometimes, it’s easy to want to be done healing. Those feelings are valid. Healing is hard, but worth it.

For anyone keeping track, yesterday marked 7 months. I didn’t realize until 9 pm last night, so it didn’t get the celebration it deserved. Five more months, and I will have made it a year. Honest moment, never imagined ever hitting that milestone.♥️
