I cut off my long hair to practice non-attachment.

Vairagya is the yogic principle of non-attachment. By moving past our desires and attachments, we are able to move deeper into the realm of consciousness. As we limit the distractions of the illusionary world, we are able to bring more focus to our internal world.

I had luscious hair that touched the bottom tip of my shoulder blades. I got a lot of compliments on my hair. If you know me, you know how much I love attention! Over the years, my long haired hippie / yoga teacher man-bun vibe became a part of my identity. As a practice of vairagya, I chose to cut my hair short to release my attachment to my hair and the ego I had built around it.

Our yoga practices more than the physical movements we do on our mat. Yoga is a practice of self-study and self-awareness that can be used in every part of our lives. If you want to deepen your practice, I suggest picking up a copy of, "The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali," with translation and commentary by Sri Swami Satchidananda.

We all need space to slow down and reset. Join me every other Saturday for your new reset ritual.

The Saturday Reset is your dedicated time to help bring your nervous system back to baseline. We spend so much of our lives in a constant state of effort and these bi-weekly sessions are designed to guide your body back into its natural state of ease.

Each month, I’m offering two different ways for you to find your balance:

- 75m Vinyasa/Yin: We’ll move through a steady flow to move stagnant energy and deepen our awareness, then settle into deep Yin holds to surrender to the moment.

- 45m Breath & Meditation: A focused dive into breathwork to quiet your mental chatter and recalibrate your internal state from the inside out.

One Saturday ritual, two locations, and plenty of space for you to shift from a human doing, back to a human being.

TICKET INFO: Donation-based tickets; pay what you can. Grab yours at the link in my bio or at CaseyJohnFry.com/calendat.

LOCATIONS: Vin/Yin at Uniti Montrose, 701 Richmond Ave.
Breath & Meditation at 402 Avondale St.

NOTE: Bring your own mat, towel, and water.

Aloha,
Casey

Guys, checking in on your male friends might feel awkward, but silence costs more.

Men are 4x more likely to die by su***de. How can we change that?

Be the friend who asks, “How are you, really?”

Yoga is more than movement. Its ethical framework (yamas and Niyamas) help guide our lives. Ishvara Pranidhana is to surrender to the divine.

A yoga Asana practice allows us to practice surrender in a controlled and intentional environment. Once we can learn to soften and surrender into our yoga poses, we can then integrate that skill into other aspects of our lives.

Think of Dancer, which is a physically challenging pose. There's a lot happening between the activation of the back bend, internal rotation of your hip, while also balancing on one foot. You have the choice to try to dominate the pose by imposing your will on it, or you can get into the pose and use your breath to soften into it. You might not "get as deep" into the pose using the second option. Thankfully, yoga isn't about the position your body takes in the poses. Yoga is about what is happening in your head and your heart as you practice the Asana.

Once you learn how to soften into the physical postures, you get to learn how to integrate that knowledge so you can soften into your thoughts, feelings, and emotions.
