Discovering good medicine is what the ancients did. They learned from their ancestors and Mother Earth. They listened to their inner being to guide their way on.
Its sounds like an ethereal and enigmatic journey.
However, the path starts when I stop listening to the distractions and focus on myself. It is really that simple.

*How often do I think about my life?
*How often do I listen to my needs?
*How often do meet them?
*Do I trust myself?
*Do I really want the truth?

Not every day is carnivals, roses, sunshine, ponies and kitties. I think we’re here to see what the lesson has been in the struggle -and to enjoy and embrace the empowerment of getting through! A great psychologist named Dr. Albert Bandura called it self-efficacy. Essentially self-efficacy is “can I make it through?” When you believe you can make it through- you are able to achieve great things. Dr. Bandura researched motivation. He suggested that self-efficacy is how people get up on the stage and speak to thousands, win gold medals and perform their best. It’s also how people change their behaviors and overcome obstacles.
*What needs to change?
*What are your goals?
*What do you need to overcome in yourself?

Dance. I’ve learned so much about life through dance. Let me say I’ve learned so much about my life through dance. Before my class yesterday, I was running late, forcing myself to be productive, under pressure, putting others before my own needs, and feeling insecure. I see how it played out in a fun class. I wish I would’ve took more breaths; and enjoyed the camaraderie of the class instead of overthinking. Hi, I’m Holly - I’m an over-thinker.
I took a dance class in high school and I had a bright orange leotard (thanks Ma). I fell in love with dancing way back then. My dad was an incredible dancer and I loved watching that gift he had. For me, it was more of a chasing that feeling of accompanying what I felt inside to movement. I learned how I show up. I learned how I held back. I learned how I gave it all at times. I learned how maybe I missed the mark but I never missed the beat. I learn how to trust and better follow. I learn how to trust myself. I am learning how to get out of my head and get into the moment…and the most important aspect of dance:💥 no matter what mood I am 💥no matter what’s going on in the planet when I surrender to the dance 💥and I just go and just show up 💥💥💥I’m never disappointed in what I received or released. I might be disappointed in my skills or my natural ability (we all do this inner critic) but I’m never disappointed what dance teaches me.
I know about what dance does for me, but we also know in research that dance is a medicine for your mental health. It releases the junk all the way to a cellular level. I don’t wanna keep that stuff! So no matter what it looks like when it was released, good bad or straight ugly I can’t think of a better therapy modality. The construct is that dance is about you, for you. Sounds like a gift.

We all fall down ~ but we get up! Resilience. I marvel at all of our resilience and revere us creatures for getting on up! If you stay down, you’ll get stepped on as a wise mentor once taught me.
Stay strong - or get strong cause you have access to it!!!!! Believe that.
All love surround you.

My love language is life. I think about the day ahead in the evenings. I think about the beautiful and unexpected things that are gonna happen. Some of them are them mundane, like cleaning up after myself or my children or my animals. Some of the things I look forward to during the day are a perfect cup of coffee, watching my hummingbirds, the smile from a neighbor ~ sunrises and sunsets. On occasion it even gets more glorious like lunch with a friend, dancing, or a good tear remembering those that you love so much. And even more spectacularly revitalizing are the times when we have wins after a long, hard road of path finding in a dry and weary land. Sometimes there’s an oasis at the end of the road that not only do we get to dip in, but we get to share it with the other thirsty folks.
Yes, life is a series of cleaning up the sand that can drift out of our hands, but it is also an ever present choice to see the joy. And when I see it, I share it.
And that’s good medicine ❤️‍🩹

By the way, I think Valentine’s Day is a holiday that just reminds us to love… we’re kind of forgetful as humans.🩷🌷🩷🌷🩷
