PAYING IT FORWARD: 5-year-old Kay was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at UMC Children's Hospital in 2024. Her mother Jessica says this disease is challenging, but with support from her family and the generosity of the community, Kay has been able to overcome many obstacles! Today she is thriving with her new best friend Maeve, a diabetic alert dog.
One of Kay's favorite toys has been her Barbie doll with an insulin pump, just like hers! Kay and her family recently returned to UMC Children's Hospital to donate 50 of these Barbies for other pediatric patients who are newly-diagnosed or struggling with type 1 diabetes. Our nurses have already distributed one, and the patient was so thrilled! A big thank you to Kay and her wonderful family and friends for their generosity. This donation will make a big difference for a lot of patients! 💟
