Health care in the United States is increasingly team-based, and doulas—who often provide emotional, physical, and educational support for patients during birth, the postpartum period, and beyond—are valuable members of many care teams.

ACOG’s new clinical guidance encourages ob-gyn collaboration with doulas and gives ob-gyns the tools they need to better understand a doula’s role. It also highlights the importance of stronger partnerships between clinicians and doulas, which can provide vital support across the lifespan—including during and after pregnancy—and can lead to better patient outcomes.

🍼 Have questions about heavy metals in baby food? You’re not alone.

Recent news has many parents wondering what this means for their little ones. The good news is that knowledge is power! 💚

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) shares that while low levels of heavy metals can be found in some foods due to environmental factors, parents can help reduce exposure by:
🥕 Offering a variety of fruits, vegetables, grains, and proteins.
🥣 Limiting reliance on rice-based products.
🍎 Choosing whole fruits instead of juice when appropriate.
👶 Continuing regular well-child visits and recommended lead screenings. Exposure from baby food is only one part of a child’s overall exposure, and routine heavy metal testing beyond standard lead screening is generally not recommended if baby food is the only concern.
