Broken Dreams
It was a little over a year ago when *Tammy* met the man of her dreams. She was in her final year of college, looking forward to graduating and starting her career in Business Finance. *Seth* was new to the school, having transferred from another college. He too was in his final year and planning on a career in Computer Science. Tammy and Seth were inseparable, spending every spare minute of time together. Their friends thought they made the perfect couple.
Fast forward 6 months and things weren’t looking so idyllic. The “spending every spare minute of time together” had slowly morphed into Tammy having to justify and account for every minute of her time away from Seth. When they weren’t together, he was barraging her with text messages and phone calls. Her friends were now telling her to break up with him because they saw their friend withering away before their eyes. Tammy thought “they just don’t understand Seth, he needs me! He would never do anything to hurt me.”
Now, over a year into their relationship, both having graduated from college and starting their careers, Tammy tells Seth that she has missed her period. Taking an at home pregnancy test, the results were positive. She was pregnant!
The reaction Tammy got from Seth shocked her. He accused her of being with someone else and that the baby wasn’t his. He demanded she get an abortion and the sooner the better. Tammy thought, “How could he possibly think I would be seeing anyone else? He knows every move I make every minute of the day. How could he deny that this baby is his and demand that I abort?”
The reality of what their relationship had become started to sink in as things went from bad to worse. Needing someone to talk to, Tammy started searching the internet for a place she could go and found the Pregnancy Resource Center of Salt Lake City. We welcomed Tammy with open arms and listening heart ready to come alongside her and guide her through her options.
We confirmed her pregnancy and Tammy was able to see her baby’s heartbeat on the ultrasound screen. She cried as she saw the pulsing heartbeat, knowing she couldn’t possibly abort this baby. Tammy decided it wasn’t safe to go home because of threats her boyfriend was making.
We helped Tammy find a safe place to stay and resources for her pregnancy as well as referrals for counseling. Most importantly, we were able to share with Tammy Christ’s love for her. How she could trust in Him and lean on Him through this season of her life and beyond. Tammy was receptive, accepting our offer of a Bible and prayers for she and her baby.
Many months later we heard from Tammy again. She called to thank the PRC for being there for her at a critical moment in her life. She wanted to let us know how much she appreciated the love and support she received at our center. Tammy was in a safe place having left her boyfriend and she had found a church who welcomed her in and loved her unconditionally.
We are so thankful to the Lord for working through the PRC in Tammy’s life and guiding her to a great church home! And we are also grateful He works through you, our supporters to make these impossible transformations possible. Thank you so much!
