Congratulations to Abby Soterin, MD for receiving the Care Like Crazy Award!

A colleague shared these kind words about Abby.
"Dr. Soterin recently cared for a critically ill patient in our CVICU who required a specialized procedure that we were unable to provide at our facility. What could have easily ended as a simple “no available options” situation became an example of extraordinary dedication because of her persistence and compassion. She spent numerous hours personally calling multiple hospitals to find an accepting facility. When transportation challenges and concerns about the patient’s wife being able to travel added additional stress, Dr. Soterin continued to advocate tirelessly for this patient and his family. She took into account not only the medical needs of the patient but also the emotional and logistical burdens placed on them.

Despite multiple obstacles, Dr. Soterin did not give up. Through her determination, she ultimately secured an accepting facility in Omaha, which was the patient’s preferred location. Her efforts went far beyond what was required and made an incredibly stressful situation more manageable for both the patient and his family.

Dr. Soterin consistently demonstrates what it truly means to “Care Like Crazy.” Her advocacy, perseverance and compassion embody the very spirit of this award, and she is deeply deserving of this recognition."

Abby, thank you for the care you provide daily to your patients. You make a difference in the lives of others. We are honored that you are part of the Bryan Medical Staff.

Do you feel like the only way to get your child’s attention is by raising your voice? While it may work in the moment, it can make communication more difficult over time.

Todd Middagh, parent-child interaction therapist at Bryan Counseling Center, explains how raising your voice can cause children to disengage or only respond to loud tones.

Listen as Todd shares how using a calm voice can help build trust, improve cooperation and strengthen your relationship with your child.

As you work on communication, a therapist can support your progress and help you build effective strategies. Learn more: https://lnk.bryan.org/4vYmiop

West Nile virus is spread by mosquitoes, and most people who are infected won’t feel sick. For others, symptoms can include fever, fatigue, headache and muscle aches within 2 to 14 days of a bite.

A small number of cases can become serious, so it’s important to know what to watch for and when to seek care. Prevention is key, including using insect repellent and reducing standing water around your home.

💙 New babies. New beginnings. New dads. 💙
This Father’s Day, we celebrated the incredible fathers who welcomed their little ones into the world over the weekend. Each dad received a coffee mug to show our admiration and joy. We’re honored to be part of these first sweet memories.

For most people, managing an ongoing health conditions often means constant appointments, lab work and unexpected costs. For Kelly and her daughter, Bryan On-Demand Lab brought something different.

Through this service, Kelly found a better way to manage their family’s health and schedule. They got the lab tests needed at their convenience without a doctor’s order. They were able to save money, get results before appointments and walk into each doctor visit prepared to get the most out of the visit.

It’s convenient, predictable and allowed Kelly to put herself in control of her health, on her schedule. Read Kelly’s story:

We just wrapped up our annual Bryan Health Appreciation Nights at Lincoln Children's Zoo, and it was another great week celebrating our team and their families.

Over five nights, Bryan staff and their families enjoyed time together at the zoo with free activities including scenic train rides, animal encounters and penguin shows, and the chance to feed goats, camels and giraffes.

Attendees also received a snack with pizza, water and a cookie, with Kona Ice available for an extra sweet treat.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and help us continue to make this tradition so special.

🥊Aina is improving her Parkinson’s disease one punch at a time.🥊

“Parkinson’s disease can make you feel like a zombie or even an alien at times. Rock Steady Boxing is helping me take my life and my body back, little by little. I really appreciate that the class is structured, and even more so, I value not feeling alone. Being able to connect with others who are going through the same experiences has made a meaningful difference. I also love the instructors – they are cheerful, encouraging and motivate me in a positive way. They give tough love when it’s needed, and they do it in just the right way.”

Rebecca, a retired Bryan Health nurse, knew something wasn’t right with her adult son’s chest pain.

After weeks of unanswered concerns in the state where he lives, Rebecca contacted Bryan Heart. They reviewed his records and scheduled appointments for him in Lincoln. Testing found a 90% blockage in his left anterior descending artery, and they were able to place a stent just in time.

“The care that was shown by both Sarah Schroder, APRN, and Dr. Brock Cookman was above and beyond. If we hadn’t had the help from Bryan Heart, the outcome could have been his sudden death due to a widow-maker heart attack. God Bless Bryan Health and especially the staff who helped save our son.” – Rebecca, grateful mother

Congratulations to Dr. Cookman, Sarah and their Bryan Heart teams, along with radiology, cardiac cath lab and third floor west cardiac unit on this recognition.
