Friday at Kindred Pen — Let’s See What Comes Through

I opened up some in-person appointment time this Friday from 4:15 PM–9:30 PM at my home, and if you’ve been thinking about booking a reading, trying Brainspotting, getting some henna, or just finally making some time for yourself…this is your sign.

Here’s what’s available through Kindred Pen:

Intuitive Henna Reading — $44
Henna + intuitive guidance, because sometimes the design that shows up has a little more to say than you expected.

Henna Designs — pricing varies
Or let me choose your design for $20 and trust me to do my thing.

Oracle Card Reading — $22
Bring your questions, your curiosity, or that situation you’ve been overthinking for the 47th time.

Mediumship Reading — $44 / 30 minutes
A space to connect, listen, and see what messages may come through.

Brainspotting — $50
A guided session to help you work with what may be sitting beneath the surface.

Emotional Healing Through Art — $50 / 60 minutes
No artistic talent required. Stick figures are absolutely welcome. This is about expression, not winning an art competition.

Can’t Make It In Person?

No problem.

Oracle Card Readings and Mediumship Readings are available via video chat.

Oracle Card Readings are also available through text or email if you’d rather receive your reading from the comfort of your couch, wrapped in a blanket and avoiding pants. No judgment here.

And then there’s the Unhinged Oracle Card Reading.

This one is ONLY available through text, email, or Messenger. It’s for when you don’t want the polite, sugar-coated version and you’re ready for the cards to basically kick the door down and say, “Okay, so THIS is what we’re doing?”

One very important FYI for anyone booking an in-person appointment at my home:

I have a cat. Her name is Toast.

Toast is very much her own woman. She does NOT like to be touched, so please admire her from a respectful distance. She may supervise your appointment, stare directly into your soul from across the room, or act like you don’t exist. Honestly, that’s just Toast being Toast.

Friday appointments are limited from 4:15 PM–9:30 PM.

If something here has been calling your name, message me to schedule your appointment. Let’s see what comes through.

First-Time In-Person Appointments: For the safety and privacy of both myself and my clients, first-time appointments require a full name, a working and confirmed phone number, and appointment confirmation. A deposit/payment will be required to secure your appointment. My home address will only be provided privately once your appointment has been confirmed and deposit received. All deposits are non refundable. I reserve the right to decline or reschedule an appointment if I feel the situation is not a good fit.

So I’m going to be a little vulnerable here. I’m not asking for handouts, and I’m not sharing this because I want anyone to feel sorry for me. I’m sharing it because sometimes we have to be honest about what’s going on behind the scenes.

I have some medical things happening right now that are painful, uncomfortable, and unfortunately expensive to get better. I do have insurance, and I’m grateful for that, but unfortunately insurance doesn’t cover everything. There are still deductibles, out-of-pocket costs, treatments, appointments, and other expenses that add up very quickly. Out of respect for my own privacy, I’m not going to go into the details, but I do want to be honest about why I’m making this post.

If you’ve thought about booking a reading, Brainspotting session, intuitive henna, or one of the other services I offer, please know that booking with me right now is helping me in more ways than you may realize. You’re not just supporting my small business. You’re helping me take care of myself and cover some of the costs that come with getting healthy.

I have never gotten into this work because my biggest goal was to make money. If you’ve been around me for a while, you probably know I’ve discounted services, given readings away, donated services, and helped people simply because my heart told me to. I know there are plenty of you who could probably pull out receipts and say, “Oh, we know.” And yes… you absolutely could.

But right now, I need to make a change. I need to stop giving so much of my work away and start charging what my time, energy, experience, and services are actually worth. Not because my heart has changed. Not because I suddenly care more about money. And definitely not because I’ve forgotten why I started doing this.

I’m doing it because I also have to take care of myself.

And honestly, that’s something I tell other people all the time, so I suppose the universe decided it was time for me to practice what I preach.

So if you’ve been thinking about booking something with me, this is your sign. Book the reading. Get the henna. Schedule the Brainspotting session. Let me create something for you, help you work through something, or simply give you a space to breathe and reconnect with yourself.

You get something that hopefully helps, inspires, grounds, or makes you smile… and I get a little help toward taking care of myself and getting through a season that I didn’t exactly put on my calendar.

I’m still here to help. I’m still here to listen. I’m still here to create. My heart for this work hasn’t changed.

I’m just learning that taking care of other people doesn’t mean I’m allowed to forget about taking care of myself.

So thank you to everyone who has supported Kindred Pen, booked with me, shared my posts, recommended me, or simply believed in what I do. Every bit of that support means more to me right now than I can probably put into words.

And if you’re ready to book, send me a message. Let’s make something happen — for you and, honestly, for me too.

Kindred Pen 🤍

Okay, I know I’ve been a little MIA lately. I took some time off and stepped away for a bit… because apparently even the people who are always telling everyone else to slow down and take care of themselves actually have to listen to their own advice once in a while.

But I’m back and ready to get back to doing what I love.

Just a reminder that if you’ve been thinking about booking an appointment with me, you can message me right here on Facebook to get something scheduled. You can also book through the Oddballs & OutKasts website, and I’ll have more booking options available soon.

My availability is a little limited because I do have a full-time job during the week and I’m usually out doing events on the weekends. So my calendar can get a little crowded, but I will always do my best to find a time that works.

So whether you’ve been wanting a reading, henna, or one of the other services I offer, don’t be shy. Send me a message and let’s get you on the calendar.

And thank you for sticking around while I took a little time for myself. Sometimes we need to step back, breathe, reset and take care of ourselves. I’m feeling refreshed and ready to get back to creating, connecting and doing the work I love.

Let’s Talk About It

One of the hardest things we can learn to do is recognize what we are actually feeling. Not what we think we should be feeling. Not what we have convinced ourselves we are feeling. And definitely not the emotion we slap on top because it’s more socially acceptable or less emotionally inconvenient. Sometimes anger isn’t really anger. Sometimes irritation is just hurt wearing a leather jacket and pretending it’s fine. Sometimes frustration is fear in disguise, acting like it’s “just being logical.” Sometimes jealousy is insecurity doing parkour in your brain. Sometimes “I don’t care” is actually “I care way too damn much and I am actively trying not to implode about it.” And sometimes the emotion we’re showing is just the decoy while the real one is hiding behind a couch like it pays rent there.
So how do you figure out what you’re actually feeling? Start by stopping. I know. Revolutionary. Groundbreaking. Nobel Prize-worthy advice. But most of us don’t actually stop long enough to feel anything. We react. We defend. We explain. We overthink. We text our friends “am I crazy or…?” We scroll. We suddenly become extremely interested in reorganizing a drawer that has not been touched since 2019. Anything except sitting still long enough to feel the thing.
Try asking yourself: what happened? Not the entire 47-chapter emotional saga with flashbacks and director’s commentary. Just what actually happened. Then check in with your body like it’s the only honest witness in the room. Did your chest tighten? Did your stomach drop like it just saw a horror movie twist? Did your jaw clench like it’s training for a boxing match? Are you hot, shaky, heavy, numb, or suddenly convinced you need to move to another country? Your body usually knows what’s going on before your brain finishes its dramatic interpretation.
Then ask: what emotion am I calling this? Maybe you say, “I’m pi**ed.” Okay, valid. But let’s not stop at the headline. What’s the subtext? What’s underneath the anger? Am I hurt? Rejected? Embarrassed? Disappointed? Feeling ignored? Feeling invisible? Feeling like I just got emotionally left on read in real life? That’s where things start getting uncomfortably accurate.
Because anger is often the emotion we reach for when the real one feels too exposed. It’s much easier to say, “I’m pi**ed off,” than, “That actually hurt my feelings and I don’t know how to say that without feeling like I’m 12 years old again.” It’s easier to say, “I don’t care,” than, “I cared a lot and now I feel stupid about it.” It’s easier to say, “Whatever,” than, “I’m disappointed and I’m trying not to take it personally but I absolutely am.” And half the time we don’t even realize we’ve switched into emotional camouflage mode.
Also, let’s talk about the stories our brains love to write. Because wow. Our brains are not neutral narrators. Someone doesn’t text back and suddenly we’ve written a full psychological thriller trilogy. “They’re mad at me.” “They’re losing interest.” “They’re secretly planning to disappear and start a new life under a different name.” “They’re choosing someone else.” “They’re done with me.” Meanwhile, the truth might be: they’re in the shower, their phone is dead, or they simply forgot because they are, in fact, a human being with a chaotic nervous system and not a villain in your emotional Netflix series.
Those are thoughts, not emotions. The emotion might be anxiety. The thought is just anxiety trying to justify its existence with a screenplay.
And that distinction matters, because you can’t always control what other people do, but you can start noticing what their behavior is triggering in you. Sometimes what you’re reacting to isn’t even fully about the present moment. It’s the present moment accidentally stepping on an old emotional landmine you forgot you buried. A small thing today can wake up something much older, and suddenly you’re reacting like it’s 2014 again and your nervous system never got the memo that we’ve moved on.
That doesn’t make your feelings dramatic or wrong. It makes them layered. And honestly, a little overworked.
But please don’t judge the emotion. There is no award for “most emotionally correct reaction.” You don’t get bonus points for being chill while internally combusting. You don’t have to be ashamed of jealousy, or angry at your anger, or disappointed in your disappointment like it’s a personal failure. You’re not supposed to be a robot with excellent coping skills 24/7. You’re a person. A very emotionally Wi-Fi-connected person.
Feelings are information. They are not instructions. They are not commands. They are not emergency evacuation orders.
Feeling angry doesn’t mean you need to explode like a shaken soda can. Feeling jealous doesn’t mean you need to accuse someone like you’re in a courtroom drama. Feeling hurt doesn’t mean you have to immediately confront someone mid-emotional chaos. Feeling afraid doesn’t mean danger is guaranteed. An emotion is something to listen to, not something that automatically gets the steering wheel, the keys, and control of your entire life decisions.
The next time something really gets under your skin, pause and ask: what happened? what am I feeling? where do I feel it in my body? what story am I telling myself about this? what might actually be underneath this? is this about right now, or is this about something older wearing a disguise? and finally, what do I actually need?
Not what do I want them to do. That’s a separate conversation. What do I need? Reassurance? A boundary? An apology? Space? Connection? To be heard? To cry for a minute without immediately analyzing it like a science experiment? To let something go that I’ve been gripping like it owes me money?
Because sometimes the loudest emotion in the room is not the real one. Sometimes the real one is quieter. It’s just sitting there saying, “Hey… I’ve been trying to get your attention for a while now.”
And honestly, that voice? It’s usually been waiting longer than we’d like to admit. Probably patiently. Probably exhausted. Probably wondering if we’re ever going to check in.
Learning to recognize our emotions isn’t about becoming perfectly calm, endlessly self-aware, or spiritually unbothered by everything. It’s about becoming honest enough to notice what’s actually happening inside of us instead of just reacting to the surface noise. Because once we can name what we’re really feeling, we stop fighting ghosts and start understanding ourselves. And once we understand ourselves, we finally get a choice in what we do next.
