23 MONTHS SOBER TODAY āØ
On the 23rd too⦠which feels very on-brand for me at this point, honestly. God really said, āhere babehh, have a matching number moment.ā š
23 months ago, I was out here making emotional support gas station drink runs, crying over things I canāt even remember now, and waking up feeling like a haunted Victorian child fighting for survival.
Today?
Jesus, lots of humor, and pure audacity.
Somehow, yall, Iām happier than I ever was drunk.
Turns out āone day at a timeā actually works, which is annoying because I hated hearing that in the beginning.
Recovery hasnāt been all sunshine and inspirational background music though. Some days it looked like:
⢠crying in the shower
⢠fighting cravings out of pure spite
⢠realizing I actually DO have emotions
⢠apologizing to people
⢠learning who I was without alcohol
⢠and discovering that apparently Iām still weird sober⦠just hydrated now
Somewhere along the way, God turned my mess into a testimony.
Now I get to experience life fully present with motherhood, marriage, laughter, music, healing, even the chaos. And THAT is something alcohol could never give me.
If youāre in early recovery and reading this:
Please stay. Please keep going. Your life is not over, broā¦itās finally beginning.
