June marks Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month, an annual healthcare observance that encourages us to wear purple, volunteer, and donate money to research as part of the effort to combat Alzheimer’s and other dementias. June is Men’s Health Month, an annual reminder of the gender’s challenges when it comes to health. Men, on average, live five years less than women. Men, on average, take part in annual wellness visits 25% less than women. Even Men’s Health Month (June) comes up a day short when compared to Women’s Health Month (May). Today, June 7, we celebrate National Cancer Survivors Day to honor the more than 18 million survivors across the country, and the loved ones and caregivers who stood beside them during their journey/fight. This is a community no one asks to join, yet its members show extraordinary strength, resilience, and hope. Their stories remind us that early detection saves lives and that healthy choices today can help reduce cancer risk tomorrow. Take care of yourself: stay active, eat well, avoid known carcinogens, and keep up with recommended screenings. Your future self will thank you.
