The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine was well represented at the Kentucky Association of Blood Banks (KABB) meeting on August 21, 2026, with two faculty presentations highlighting important topics in transfusion medicine.

“Stronger Together: Building an Inclusive Blood Bank Team” was presented by Alyssa De La Cruz, while Dr. Tayyeb Ayyoubi presented “TRAGS: Transfusion-Related Alpha-Gal Syndrome.”

Both presentations provided an opportunity to share expertise and highlight the important work being done within our department in the field of transfusion medicine.

We are proud to recognize Dr. Ayyoubi and Alyssa De La Cruz for representing UofL Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at this year’s KABB meeting!

This year’s Association for Academic Pathology meeting was especially meaningful for UofL as Dr. Eyas Hattab began his term as President of AAPath, reflecting his longstanding leadership and contributions to academic pathology. He also chaired the AAPath Council Meeting and will lead preparations for the organization’s landmark 60th Annual Meeting in Vancouver next year.

A key focus of Dr. Hattab’s presidency will be workforce development, including strengthening the pathology pipeline, supporting trainees and early-career faculty, and cultivating future leaders.

We congratulate Dr. Hattab on this distinguished achievement and thank all of our representatives for their outstanding participation, which continues to elevate the impact of UofL Pathology on the national stage.
