"She's the most wonderful person in the whole wide world," says Bert of Jane, his wife of 69 years.

"Oh my goodness – that's the first time I've heard that," Jane laughs.

"I did really good," Bert adds. "I got a wife, two kids, four grandkids, and seven great-grandkids – and they're perfect."

An Air Force family, they spent years moving around, facing the challenges that come with not living near their support system and raising young children. "He was flying – gone nearly all the time – so that put a lot of responsibility on me," Jane shares. "But I think that was one of the best things that ever happened to me. It forced me to grow up."

"We were just kids," Bert adds.

Retirement has been kind to them, giving them time to enjoy all the leisure and fun there is to be had as part of the community at Atria San Juan. And according to Jane, their days now are a reward for a life well-lived. "We've had a good life – I feel we've been blessed."

“It is worth a return visit.”

Donald summed up the experience perfectly after residents from Atria Park of Lynbrook attended the Second Annual Short Play Festival at StrongBox Theater. The group enjoyed an afternoon of eight short comedies, plenty of laughs and time together exploring the local arts scene.

Brenda called the plays “very cheesy” – but was especially happy to have her daughter along for the outing. Diane simply appreciated that, “It is great to get out on a Saturday,” while Geraldine was impressed by the actors’ ability to memorize so much.

We love seeing our communities make time for local art and plenty of fun together. 🎭

Surf’s up! We enjoyed fresh beachy bites at our Taste of SoCal events.

We enjoyed French onion dip served with Ruffles potato chips, followed by California Cobb salad served with a whole wheat roll and Dole Whip for dessert!

To top it off, we watched a modern Hollywood classic, La La Land!

We can't wait to see – and taste – the cuisine from our destination next month!

"Just because I have Alzheimer's doesn't mean I can't do things anymore," says Caryl, a resident at Atria Larson Place.

For Caryl, a lifelong fitness instructor, movement has always been part of who she is. Today, she continues to share that passion by helping lead daily workout sessions with her fellow residents. Alzheimer's changes a lot. But it doesn't change our commitment to helping our residents connect with past passions and talents.

Because in memory care, it's not about focusing on what's been lost; it's about celebrating what's still possible.

"Have a passion, purpose and aim in your life," shares Rita, a resident at Atria Park of Glen Ellyn. At 100 years old, Rita has lived a lot of life, gathering more than enough pearls of wisdom to share.

A former cadet nurse, Rita's passion for care started at a young age, leading her into the U.S. Army and serving during World War II. So we trust that she knows what she's saying when offering advice.

"Do not smoke. Be sure to eat healthy. Treat others as you would like to be treated. Love and help your friends and family. Stay active and laugh!"

Cheers to 30 years!

Residents at all of Atria’s communities came together earlier this week to celebrate Atria’s 30 years as a company. Together they raised a glass in celebration and shared the pearls of wisdom they've spent a lifetime collecting.

As Atria's 30th anniversary gift to the world, we’ve created a website and a hotline where anyone can hear residents speak on love, work, grit, money, joy, family, life and health. Because if 30 years has taught us anything, it's that real wisdom is earned over time.

Vivienne is 103!

A beloved resident of Atria El Camino Gardens, Vivienne recently celebrated the remarkable milestone of her 103rd birthday with her son, daughter-in-law, fellow residents and the team at her community.

A native Californian, Vivienne proudly served in the U.S. Army, from Camp Elliott to Camp Beale and across the Pacific to Guam in 1948, where she contributed to the efforts of the 20th Air Force.

Vivienne has lived a life filled with adventure, including spending five years on the island of Hawaii. Her birthday celebration was filled with laughter and joy, highlighted by a hula dance performance from a fellow resident in honor of her love for Hawaii.

Happy birthday, Vivienne! 🎉

Some of the most meaningful artwork in our communities comes with a story.

At Atria San Juan, several of Joan's handwoven tapestries, created in the 1970s while raising her young children, are proudly displayed throughout the community. Inspired by her travels in New Mexico and her background as an art major, Joan spent countless hours at her loom creating vibrant scenes of sunsets, birds and nature.

Today, her artwork brightens the community's halls and sparks conversations, reminding us that every resident has a lifetime of creativity and unique experiences to share.

Thank you, Joan, for enriching Atria San Juan with your beautiful work. 🎨🧶

“I live here because of Craig.”

“Craig is always here when I need him. He makes everyone feel better and smile.”

“We are so thankful for Craig and the team at Atria Park of St. Joseph's.”

Great communities are built by great leaders, and Craig Baum is one of them. As Executive Director at Atria Park of St. Joseph's, Craig leads with compassion, humility and a willingness to jump in wherever he's needed – whether that's driving the community bus, joining residents in costume for a celebration or simply taking the time to brighten someone's day.

“Craig has an incredible ability to make every resident and every employee feel like they matter,” says Jason Walthour, Regional Vice President. “He’s the kind of leader who’s never too busy to help, never asks someone else to do something he wouldn’t do himself and always finds ways to bring a little joy into the day.”

His dedication recently earned him the Florida Senior Living Association's Best of the Best Award, recognizing his extraordinary service to residents, employees and the community.

Congratulations, Craig, on this well-deserved honor. Thank you for creating a community where everyone feels valued, connected and at home.

Here comes the bride! 👰‍♀️

Mackenzie, an Engage Life Program Instructor at Atria Patchogue, is one of the residents’ favorite people!

"Whether it’s remembering the little details, sharing a laugh or simply brightening someone’s day, she has a special way of making meaningful connections with everyone around her," shares Alyson, the community's Engage Life Director.

Mackenzie is so loved by everyone at Atria Patchogue that residents and staff shared her big day with her!

"I have built a bond with each of these residents," shares Makenzie. "To have them be a part of one of the biggest and most special moments in my life just meant so much to me and truly made me feel so loved."

"Residents were filled with tears of joy watching Mackenzie walk down the aisle, and it is such a special moment they will cherish together forever," adds Alyson.

Congratulations, Mackenzie, and thank you for fostering such a beautiful bond with everyone in your community.
