Joshua’s House is so excited to announce that we are adding a therapeutic dog to our treatment team. She will come on board the first week of February and we’re so excited to be able to offer this new service to our clients. Sansa Is going to help our clients so much!!

For those of you who aren’t sure what kind of help a therapy dog would be, here are some fun facts for you:

Therapy dog treatment involves trained dogs providing comfort, reducing stress, anxiety, and loneliness in people facing physical or mental health challenges, by lowering cortisol, boosting oxytocin, and encouraging social connection in settings like hospitals, schools, and rehab centers, enhancing overall well-being through affectionate interaction. These dogs support therapeutic goals, helping patients cope with difficult treatments, anxiety and mood disorders, SUD, PTSD, autism, or depression, acting as emotional bridges and calming influences.

How Therapy Dogs Help
~Mental & Emotional Benefits: Lower stress hormones (cortisol), increase "happy" hormones (oxytocin, dopamine), reduce anxiety and depression, provide unconditional support, and improve mood.
~Physical Benefits: Can lower blood pressure and heart rate, making patients feel calmer and more relaxed,
~Social Benefits: Act as social catalysts, encouraging communication and interaction, especially for those with social difficulties
~Therapeutic Support: Help children and adults engage more in treatment, distract from pain, and provide motivation in recovery

Our 2nd annual Client Christmas Dinner was a success!! Many thanks to our staff who made this possible- Dorothy, Jess and Brittany (with their significant other/family) who arrived and set up with who caters all our functions! Another shout out to Tambra- who provides the facility for our client’s use! The best part of tonight was watching our clients enjoy an amazing meal and open swag bags filled with awesome gifts.

Today our clients enjoyed an afternoon on the farm. They got to interact with gentle farm animals which encouraged organic healing from a place so dear to us. Joshua’s House is eternally grateful for Jess’s brother for opening his farm and his heart to our clients today.
