The internet can make being healthy feel like a full-time job. Wake up early, take a cabinet full of supplements, cut out half the foods you eat, buy expensive “health” foods, track everything, follow the perfect workout plan... it’s a lot. 😵‍💫

Supporting your health doesn’t have to mean doing everything perfectly or following every new wellness rule you see online. Getting consistent with the basics like nourishing meals, regular movement, sleep, hydration, and stress support can take you a long way, and more isn’t always better.

If health advice has ever left you feeling like you’re constantly behind or not doing enough, you’re definitely not alone. Which one of these have you felt the most pressure to do?

When we talk about eating for steady energy, it can sound much more complicated than it actually needs to be. You don’t need perfectly timed meals, a rigid meal plan, or a list of “approved” foods.

Most of the time, I’m looking at the basics first: Are you eating regularly? Are you getting enough food? Do your meals include some protein, carbohydrates, fat, and fiber? Are you going so long between meals that you’re completely depleted by the time you finally eat?

Every meal isn’t going to check every box perfectly, and it doesn’t need to. The goal is to build a pattern that helps keep you fueled through your actual life, whether that’s work, kids, errands, workouts, or everything else packed into the day.

This isn’t meant to be a meal plan or a “you should eat exactly this” post. It’s simply an example of what balanced eating can look like without making food more complicated than it needs to be.

Save this one if you need some realistic meal inspiration, and tell me which meal is hardest for you to keep balanced during a busy day. 💜

I think most of us would love for progress to look like the picture on the left. We decide we want to make a change, figure out what to do, and then move forward from there.

Real life usually looks a whole lot more like the picture on the right. 😂 There are busy weeks, setbacks, changes in routine, things that work for a while and then need to be adjusted, and seasons when we simply have more capacity than others.

None of that means you’re back at square one. Progress can still be happening even when it feels messy, slower than you expected, or completely different from the way you pictured it.

That’s one of the reasons I’m such a big believer in building strong foundations and focusing on what feels manageable instead of trying to change everything at once. Small, consistent choices still count, even when the path forward isn’t perfectly straight.

What’s something you’re working on right now?

If you’ve been feeling stuck with your health, wondering what you should focus on next, or trying to figure out whether nutrition and lifestyle could support something you’re dealing with, you’re definitely not the only one. Maybe you’ve recently been given a diagnosis, maybe you just haven’t been feeling like yourself, or maybe you’ve read so much conflicting health information that you’re not even sure what actually matters anymore.

There is SO much coming at us all the time. Eat this. Don’t eat that. Take this supplement. Fix your hormones. Lower your cortisol. Walk 10,000 steps. Lift weights. Sleep eight hours. Drink more water. Do a morning routine. Do a nighttime routine. 🤪🤪🤪
It can make figuring out what your body actually needs feel like another full-time job.

This is one of the reasons I believe so strongly in coming back to the foundations before worrying about all of the fine-tuning: nourishment, digestion, steady energy, stress and resilience, sleep, and movement. You don’t need to overhaul all six at once. Sometimes the most helpful thing you can do is look at what’s happening in your body and your life right now and choose ONE supportive place to begin.

Small changes still count, and understanding what your body actually needs is a whole lot more useful than trying to follow every piece of health advice you see online. Save this for the next time health advice starts to feel overwhelming.

Which foundation feels like your best place to start?

This is a long one, but I hope you watch it! I spend a lot of time helping other people pay attention to their symptoms and look for patterns, so I’m putting my money where my mouth is and doing the same for myself.

I’ve started logging my food, symptoms, bowel movements, stress, and other details of my day that might help me better understand what’s going on with my gut right now. I’m not obsessing over every little thing or trying to diagnose myself. I’m trying to gather information, look for patterns, and give myself something more useful than guesses.

If you watched the whole thing, thanks for listening to my TED Talk 😂

And if you didn’t…go do it now! 😉

This is one of my family’s normal go-to meals! It’s quick and easy, everyone can build and customize their own plates and it covers all the basics without too much thought. I love it on busy weeknights because it all comes together super fast.

This photo is actually from last week before the whole parasite situation blew up. No pun intended 😂
We typically add lettuce, fresh salsa, and pico but when I make this meal this week, I plan to do sautéed peppers and onions with jarred salsa instead. I want to make sure that I’m still getting the fiber from those vegetables and not skimping on flavor!

Balanced meals really can be this simple. This is what I’ll be teaching in my next free workshop, Building Balanced Meals. I’d love to help you learn how to put simple satisfying meals together for yourself and your family!
