Emily Betancur is a wife, mom, and educated childbirth doula in Lubbock, Texas. Magnolia Maternal Wellness is currently looking for an RDMS to join our growing team and perform both diagnostic and elective prenatal scans.

This role offers:
• Hourly pay based on experience
• Flexible scheduling
• At least one weekday required
• Some evening and/or Saturday availability needed
• Opportunity to grow into full-time or remain part-time — whatever fits your season of life best

👀Textbook says transition is 7–10 cm
and usually lasts 2–4 hours…

But this mom was 3 cm
and had her baby 2 hours later! 🤯🔥

So what’s going on??

💕DILATION (the opening)
Think like a scrunchie stretching open
• 0 cm = closed
• 10 cm = fully open

3cm is still considered early 🤍

💕EFFACEMENT (the thinning)
Think like a thick turtleneck → rolled down to nothing
0% = thick
50% = half way
100% = paper thin

👉 A cervix that’s 100% effaced is ready to open much more quickly than 60% or less.

💕STATION (how low baby is)
Think how baby is moving down the pelvis
-3 = high
0 = mid-pelvis
+3 = crowning

👉 +2 = baby is RIGHT there!

✨So this mom wasn’t “just 3 cm.”✨

She was:
✨ fully thinned
✨ baby super low
✨ contractions intense and close together

Her body was already in GO mode 🔥

So 3cm sounds like we have a long way to go, but in real life ➡️

We knew baby was coming by:
⭐️intensity (compared to previous contractions, these were clearly stronger)
⭐️”I can’t do this much longer”
⭐️short sentences and still uncomfortable in between contractions

So if you ever hear a number and feel discouraged…
remember to ask for station and effacement too!

Depending on your contractions, might be way closer than you think. 💪🎉👏
