Hammertoes don’t happen overnight — they’re usually the result of muscle/tendon imbalance over time, often made worse by tight shoes and certain foot structures.

Common signs:
• a toe that bends and “sticks up” at the middle joint
• rubbing, redness, corns/calluses on top of the toe
• pain in shoes (especially narrow toe boxes)

What actually helps:
✅ wider toe box shoes + toe spacers/padding
✅ custom orthotics to reduce pressure + stabilize mechanics
✅ stretching/strengthening to slow progression (best early)
✅ treating corns/calluses safely (don’t DIY with acids if you’re diabetic)
