Mystic Valley is still basking in the summer, but we’re also holding signups for our fall sessions at Ironstone Farm. As you may know, this program is designed for people with dementia or Alzheimer’s disease, along with a family member who supports them. The goal is to share experiences, enjoy the benefits of animal therapy, and make connections with families who can relate to your journey. Details on our fall session are in the final photo here. To RSVP or learn more about Mystic Valley Aging Services' Caregiver Support Program, call Kathy at 781-388-2350.

We had a fun — and funny — twist on a Memory Café at the McCarthy Senior Center in ! Our Memory Cafés are for people with dementia and Alzheimer’s Disease, along with their family caregivers. They provide a welcoming space to socialize, build support, and simply have fun. Alex Alderete, of Dr. Cornfish Caricatures, delivered the fun at last week’s session! Thank you to our wonderful partners at the Town of Wakefield Council on Aging, to Alex, and to our Caregiver Support team for coming up with this fun activity. Memory Cafés are just one part of our Caregiver Support Program. To learn more, call 781-324-7705 or visit www.mves.org/caregiver-support.

Today, we are excited to share that we have a new name! Mystic Valley Elder Services is now Mystic Valley Aging Services. We made the change because we support adults with disabilities and caregivers of all ages, in addition to older adults. In addition, many older adults don’t feel that the word senior or elder fits them.

Although our name has changed, our commitment to our 11 communities is the same. Our team and our services won’t change. You can still reach us with the same phone numbers and email addresses. You’ll see some changes to our website, as we’ll be updating it to provide a better online experience.

We’re grateful to everyone who’s trusted us and supported us over the past 50 years. And we’re looking forward to our next chapter as Mystic Valley Aging Services, empowering people and supporting their independence. To learn more, visit www.mves.org/introducing-our-new-name

Another beautiful day, feeling lucky that our office is in Malden, right by the Medford border. We have the Malden River in our backyard and we’re close to the T, the highway, great restaurants, and Boston. We also get to walk along River's Edge during our lunch break. Best of all, the location is perfect for accessing the 11 communities we serve — north, south, east and west! (If anyone can identify the white bird, please tell us in the comments!)

Exciting news for our team! 🎉 Our Wellness Nurse Program received an Aging Innovations & Achievement Award from USAging. The awards recognize creative and effective programs across the country. Congrats to our dedicated Wellness Nurses, led by Lisa Felci Jimenez, Director of Clinical Services, who have worked closely with our Supportive Housing team to expand this program over the past few years. The program provides direct access to nurses at housing sites, where our team helps monitor health conditions, supports people transitioning home after a hospital stay, and offers preventive care.

We’re also proud that two of our team members were presenters at USAging conference this year. McKayla Lever, Technology Access Manager, and Meg von Lossnitzer, Director of Community Programs, shared their insights on teaching technology skills for older adults.

If you’re living with a health condition, you’re not alone. Over 90% of older adults have at least one chronic condition. (And 75% of people aged 35-64 do too!) Lifestyle and habits make a big difference in your health as well as your quality of life. That’s why we offer a free, workshop that was developed by Stanford University. It’s called “My Life, My Health” and offers practical skills to help you lead a healthier life. We have sessions coming up in Medford and Reading. This program is free and open to anyone with a chronic condition. (Diabetes, heart disease, arthritis, high blood pressure, cancer, and Parkinson’s, to name a few.) Please check out the Medford and Reading flyers here to learn more...
