International Overdose Awareness Day is August 31st, this year the theme for IOAD is 25 Years On. Still Needed. For 25 years, International Overdose Awareness Day has brought people together to remember those we’ve lost and to take action to save lives.

For people who use substances and those who don’t. For heartbroken friends and family members of lost loved ones. For activists who fight for sorely needed policy reform. For healthcare and harm reduction workers. For tireless advocates. Overdose can affect anyone, and we encourage you to remember the tenacity of our community. Lean into the power that we can have when we work together.

This International Overdose Awareness Day, we honor the lives lost to overdose, support those affected by substance use, and take action to help save lives.

One simple way to make a difference is by taking a REVIVE! training. REVIVE! teaches you how to recognize the signs of an opioid overdose, respond in an emergency, and administer naloxone, a medication that can temporarily reverse an opioid overdose while waiting for emergency medical services.

You don't have to be a healthcare professional to learn these lifesaving skills. By becoming REVIVE! trained, you could be prepared to help a friend, family member, neighbor, or even a stranger during a critical moment.

This August 31, let's remember those we've lost by committing to education, compassion, and action. Together, we can reduce stigma, support recovery, and build a healthier, safer community.

Parents and caregivers have a powerful influence on the choices young people make. That's why the “Talk. They Hear You.” campaign encourages adults to start open, honest conversations with youth about the risks of alcohol and other drugs—including the dangers of misusing opioids and the increasing presence of fentanyl in the illicit drug supply.

You don't have to have all the answers. What matters most is listening, staying connected, and creating a safe space where young people feel comfortable asking questions and sharing their experiences.

This International Overdose Awareness Day, let's honor those we have lost by acting today. Start the conversation. Listen without judgment. Help young people make informed, healthy choices, and remind them they are never alone.
Together, we can reduce stigma, prevent substance misuse, and strengthen our community—one conversation at a time

This International Overdose Awareness Day, we join communities around the world to remember those we have lost to overdose, support individuals and families impacted by substance use, and reaffirm our commitment to prevention, compassion, and hope.

This year's theme, "25 Years On. Still Needed.", reminds us that while progress has been made, there is still important work to do. Overdose is preventable, and together we can help save lives by reducing stigma, promoting education, supporting recovery, and connecting people to the resources they need.

Every conversation matters. Every act of kindness matters. Every life matters.
Join us on August 31 as we honor those we have lost, support those in recovery, and work together to build healthier, stronger communities.
