The Cognitive Sanctuary

The Cognitive Sanctuary At The Cognitive Sanctuary, we believe that mental health is a journey, not a destination.

Our mission is to provide a space where emotional, psychological, and spiritual well-being can flourish through faith, counseling, and community.

Freedom is more than a date on a calendar.

It's the moment you finally tell the truth about what's been happening inside you.

It's breaking generational cycles that were never yours to carry. It's asking for help out loud without shame. It's sitting across from a counselor and saying, "I'm not okay, and I'm ready to heal."

That is also freedom.

My ancestors fought for the freedom of the body. But God has always been after something deeper — the liberation of the mind, the healing of the soul, the restoration of the whole person.

"It is for freedom that Christ has set us free." -Galatians 5:1

Not just freedom from chains. Freedom from trauma. From fear. From the silence that's been keeping you stuck.

This Juneteenth, we honor those who carried us here and we carry the work forward by refusing to pass broken patterns to the next generation.

The hard work of healing is an act of resistance. It is an act of faith. It is an act of love.

Happy Juneteenth to every person doing the hard work of liberating their mind, their spirit, and their story.

If you or your community needs mental health support, we are here.

💚 Your freedom is worth fighting for.

I didn’t set out to begin a counseling ministry.

I set out to serve.

Twenty years in the Navy showed me what resilience looks like. It also showed me how many people were carrying wounds nobody gave them language for.

When I left the military and walked into Dallas Theological Seminary (DTS) everything clicked. Evidence-based therapy techniques. A Biblical worldview. A genuine love for people. That’s TCS.

If you’ve been on the fence — this is your sign. I got your back. 💚 –Dee

First sessions are nerve-wracking. Full stop.

You don’t know what to say. You don’t know what they’ll think. You’re already wondering if you should cancel.

Don’t cancel.

Here's what actually happens when you sit down with Dee for the first time so you can show up ready. 👉🏿

1: We start with you. Your story, your goals, what brought you here.
2: No judgment. Ever. This is your space.
3: Faith is welcome... but never required. You lead on that.
4: You leave with a next step, not just a listening ear.

Your first session isn’t a test. It’s an invitation. 💚

“Physically. Mentally. Emotionally. Spiritually.”

That’s what whole-person care actually looks like.

Not just checking boxes. Not just 50 minutes and see you next week. All of you, in the room.

If your family is navigating something hard right now, we have family and teen counseling available at TCS.

Booking is open at cognitivesanctuary.com.

For the 3am moments when your brain won’t stop and your faith feels thin.

These three scriptures are the ones I come back to. Every time. 🙏🏾

Swipe through them slowly. Maybe even say them out loud.

Save this post for the next time anxiety gets loud. 💚 –Dee

Healing doesn’t only happen in a session.

It happens between sessions too: in the quiet moments, the hard nights, the “I don’t know where to start” mornings.

Hi. I’m Dee. 👋🏾

Navy vet. Resident in Counseling. Speaker. And someone who knows what it feels like to carry more than you should.

I built The Cognitive Sanctuary because faith and mental health belong together, and because it matters who you talk to.

I also speak at churches, conferences, and corporate events. If you need someone who will meet your audience exactly where they are, let’s connect.

Your friend finally said it: “I’m not okay.”

Now what?

Most of us freeze. Or we try to fix it. Or we say something we immediately regret.

Here's 4 things that actually help:
(because loving someone well in their hard moment is a skill. 👉🏿)

1: Listen first. Don't fix. Don't compare. Just stay.
2: Ask, "What do you need from me right now?" (and mean it.)
3: Normalize counseling. Share resources without pressure.
4: Keep checking in. One conversation isn't enough.

Bonus: Pray WITH them, not just FOR them — if they're open to it.

Tag someone who shows up for people like this. 💚

New mercy.

Every. Single. Morning.

Not because you earned it. Not because you got it right yesterday. Just because He is faithful.

Whatever you’re dragging into this week... set it down. New morning, new mercy.

“His compassions never fail. They are new every morning.” — Lamentations 3:22-23

Save this for the next hard morning. 🙏🏾
