She thought her last marathon might end for the wrong reasons.
"I'm not a fast runner." That's how Therese describes herself. It hasn't stopped her from finishing 9 marathons — with her husband running 12 marathons right alongside her.
They started as a walking, then running, couple at 54, trying to protect her bones from osteoporosis. When the run-walk-run method let her keep going despite "funky" feet and arthritic knees, she went all in — training with the run/walk method, becoming a certified coach, then building her own run/walk program - New Hampshire Run/Walk - for 45 runners across Southern NH, the only one of its kind in New England.
But Boston Marathon training brought hip pain that flat-out wouldn't quit. Dr. Frankie traced it to her back instead — a lot of hard work, exercises, and press-ups later, it was gone.
Race day: Therese finished nearly 30 minutes ahead of the cutoff with zero pain, while pacing a struggling runner for the last 18 miles. Her husband ran his last marathon that day too — his 6th Abbott World Marathon Majors star, on their hometown course.
