In honor of national dog day yesterday I would love to share about my soul dog Estella, who is the reason why Estella yoga has come to be. 🦋

In 2019 I travel to Argentina for my study abroad. I was a Spanish major in college and was supposed to go down to teach english to students. A month before I was supposed to go down they told me that program wouldn’t run instead they would place me at an animal shelter and vet. If you know anything about me, I am a crazy animal person and was so excited for this change.
In Argentina, I worked four days a week at the vet and went to the shelter on my fifth day. At the vet, I learned how to open up animals for surgery, do stitches, administer vaccines so many things I’ve never thought I would ever do. When at the shelter, I helped the team of two take care of 50+ animals in their care. This was a government run shelter with low funding. I spent more days than I ever hoped picking maggots out of dog food.
The two gentlemen that work there, we’re doing amazing things for the dogs with the minimal funding that they have. After going to the shelter for a few times, I met my sweet girl Estella. I found her in a doghouse getting bullied by a few of the other dogs. There was 5 play yards each holding over 20 dogs, more than the capacity. They tried to split up the dogs by age, but with dogs getting thrown over the fence in the shelter almost nightly, it was really easy to miss some.
After this, I was able to get her switched to the next crate over with 20+ Senior dogs. Anytime I would come to the shelter she would be so scared but would try to greet me at the front pushing through the other pups. I would take her out for daily walks and leashes were hard to come by. Any dog that went out with you just would hope they would stay by you and not run off. Estella always stayed glued to my side. After those few weeks, I knew Estella had to come back to the states with me.
I was so lucky to have an amazing host family Hugo Ochoa Uberti___Cordoba Argentina that allowed me to take her back to their home. Here she stayed with me for two weeks until news broke that COVID
