MYTH: Teething can cause high fevers in babies.
FACT: Teething may cause mild discomfort and a slight temperature increase, but a true fever of 100.4°F (38°C) or higher shouldn't automatically be blamed on teething.

💤 Let’s Talk MELATONIN

A few things to know:
- Melatonin is a natural hormone like substance released naturally at night and tells the body it's time to sleep.
- Melatonin may be helpful for some children in the short term.
- Start with good sleep routine, including avoiding screens for at least 1 hour before bedtime.
- Melatonin may also help reset sleep schedules, such as after vacations, summer breaks or other interruptions.
-While studies have shown that short term use is relatively safe, less is known about longer uses of melatonin. We need more research on the use and safety of melatonin in children.
- Keep melatonin stored safely away from children, just like all other medications.

Bottom line: Melatonin can have a role, but it shouldn’t automatically be the first answer to bedtime struggles.

Talk with your pediatrician about whether it’s appropriate for your child, and refer to this handout for additional information.
