Two North Carolina A&T students are proving that making an impact doesn’t have to wait until after graduation.
In 2026, Ryan Pennington and Ahmad Blair launched the Greensboro chapter of Sleep in Heavenly Peace, a nonprofit focused on making sure children have a safe and comfortable place to sleep.
Ryan serves as chapter president and Ahmad as vice president. Together, they organize volunteers who build beds from raw materials, then provide mattresses, bedding and everything needed at no cost to families.
The impact is immediate. In many cases, the beds are delivered directly to local families the same day they are built.
Their mission is simple: “No kid sleeps on the floor in our town.”
And they’re doing all of this while continuing to pursue their degrees at North Carolina A&T State University.
This is what service, leadership and Black excellence look like in action.
