✨ Meet Kris — one of our UP Health System – Marquette Heroes! 💙

Kris MacArthur is the Regional Director of Physician Services at UP Health System – Marquette, where she works alongside physicians, providers and staff to support exceptional patient care and ensure access to the services our communities need.

Kris's healthcare journey began after high school when she enrolled in nursing school, a decision that led her to a rewarding career in healthcare leadership. Since joining UP Health System in 2013, she has played an important role in guiding physician services through significant milestones, including the opening of the new medical office building and hospital, the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic and periods of leadership transition.

In her role, no two days are the same. From addressing immediate challenges to planning for the future, Kris works with dedicated leaders and teams committed to delivering quality care across the region. What she values most about UP Health System – Marquette is the people she works with every day and their shared commitment to caring for patients and strengthening the health of our communities.

Our family medicine providers are the foundation of health and wellness in our communities. They care for the entire family through all stages of life, building trusted relationships that often last for years. Beyond treating illness, they help patients stay healthy, manage chronic conditions, navigate healthcare decisions and achieve long-term health goals.

Family medicine plays a critical role in prevention and better health outcomes through routine screenings, wellness visits, vaccinations and health education. As healthcare becomes more complex, these providers help guide patients to the right care at the right time—always keeping the focus on the whole person.

At UP Health System – Marquette Behavioral Health, our Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) helps individuals build coping skills, strengthen support systems and successfully transition back into everyday life while continuing their recovery journey.

Last week on "Ask the Doctors" on WNMU-TV PBS, health care experts joined host Jennifer Dehlin, MD, for a discussion on stroke prevention, treatment and recovery.

The panel featured Roman Politi, MD, neurologist with Sanford Health Marshfield Clinic, along with Tessa Jazdzyk, SLP, speech-language pathologist, and Ellie Jayne, OTR, occupational therapist, both with UP Rehab Services. Together, they discussed how to recognize the warning signs of stroke, the importance of seeking immediate medical care and the therapies that help patients recover and regain independence.

The program covered stroke risk factors, treatment options and the critical role rehabilitation services play in recovery. Panelists also answered viewer questions and highlighted how acting FAST when stroke symptoms occur can significantly improve outcomes.

✨ Meet David — one of our UP Health System – Marquette Heroes! 💙

David Swanson, RN, is the operations manager for the Lakewood and Negaunee Family Medicine clinics at UP Health System – Marquette, where he supports clinic operations, process improvement initiatives and day-to-day problem-solving to help teams provide exceptional patient care.

David’s passion for healthcare began at a young age while volunteering at a local nursing home, where he learned the importance of compassion, service and human connection. That early experience inspired his commitment to helping others and led him to pursue a healthcare career.

Since joining UP Health System in 2019, David has grown through several leadership roles across the organization, beginning as an RN on the Cardiac Unit before transitioning into clinic operations management. Today, he continues to support patients, providers and staff by helping improve workflows and creating a collaborative environment for care teams.
