This is just the beginning, but we have to start somewhere. Approximately 4 million people live along the banks of the susquehanna River, and each one of us has a Susquehanna Story. Lux Convergence is waiting for your piece to be added to this Chapter. We want to know your story!

Please share with us your Susquehanna Story, so we can share it with the world. How do you personally identify with Susquehanna River? Why is She important to you? What memories do you have along Her banks or in Her currents? Our Mother will directly benefit from your voice being added to Her story. With the ecological threat to our lands and waters growing greater each passing day, with each passed protective legislation ignored, our shared gratitude, appreciation, and acknowledgment of Her presence can act as a substantial act of advocacy in Her direction.

As the stories continue to accumulate with Lux Convergence, we will be sharing your voices with the world on free public spaces and platforms such as Meta, YouTube, and the Lux Convergence website. Thank you for your care and participation to bring our collective focus back into our homelands and waters.

In addition to excess nutrients and sediment, 12,531 pounds of toxic metals flow through the Susquehanna each day, according to EPA's Chesapeake Bay management study. Toxic metals in the river include cadmium, chromium, copper, nickel, and zinc. Industry and municipal wastewater treatment plants discharge toxics including metals and chlorinated organic compounds into the water while the atmosphere and urban stormwater runoff from city streets can add lead and zinc to the toxic mix. Farms also can con- tribute toxics to the Susquehanna in the form of pesticides and herbicides.Toxics in water tend to attach to suspended particles, drop to the bottom, then re -suspend during storms. Toxics lower reproductive success and stress the health of aquatic animals. When toxics accumulate in the tissues of fish and shellfish, they pose a threat to human health. Toxics may also seep into the water table and contaminate vast amounts of groundwater. // stormwaterpa.com
