Ancient yogis believed we are born with a certain number of breaths for our lifetime. Whether you believe that or not, I think it’s a beautiful reminder to slow down and pay attention.

Try taking a few slow, deep, conscious breaths today. You can practice deep breathing anywhere, anytime, and the more we practice, the more natural it becomes.

How do you remind yourself to slow down and breathe?

I began practicing yoga because I was drawn to the connection between movement and the mind. With a background as a college gymnast, I understood strength and discipline, but yoga introduced me to a different relationship with movement, one rooted in presence instead of pressure.

Vinyasa yoga, to me, is movement with purpose. It connects movement and breath, allowing us to become fully present. It’s not about being the most flexible or doing the “perfect” pose. It’s about showing up exactly as you are and discovering what you’re capable of in that moment.

Yoga has taught me that strength and softness can exist together, and that growth doesn’t always come from pushing harder. It has helped me become more grounded, more present, and more connected to myself. It’s a gift I’m grateful to share with others.

Join me for Rhythm of the Heart Thursdays at 6 PM or Rise & Radiate Saturdays at 9 AM at Heart Shine Yoga.

Restorative yoga reminds us that we are human beings, not human doings. Healing comes through slowing down, feeling supported, and simply allowing yourself to be.

With the support of props and gentle diaphragmatic breathing, we begin to let go of the holding patterns we carry and reconnect with the peace within. It’s a receptive practice that helps bring balance back to the nervous system.

If your body has been asking you to slow down, listen. Give yourself permission to rest. Heart Shine Yoga offers Restorative Yoga and Yoga Therapy for those looking to support their nervous system. Book your peace at https://www.heartshineyoga.com/classes

Yoga is so much more than what happens on the mat.
The Yamas, the first limb of yoga, aren't simply ancient teachings to study and memorize. They're invitations to live with greater awareness and intention in everyday life.

As you swipe through the carousel, pause with these reflection questions:
🤍 Ahimsa (Kindness)
How can I speak to myself with more love and compassion instead of criticism today?
💙 Satya (Truthfulness)
Where in my life am I being invited to live more authentically?
💚 Asteya (Non-Stealing)
Where can I practice greater contentment with what I already have?
🧡 Brahmacharya (Wise Use of Energy)
Am I spending my energy on what brings meaning and purpose to my life?
💜 Aparigraha (Non-Attachment)
What am I ready to release so I can move forward with greater freedom?

You don't have to master every principle at once. Choosing one reflection to carry with you today is a beautiful place to begin.
If you'd like to learn the meaning behind each Yama and discover how these teachings can guide life both on and off the mat, I've shared more in my newest blog. You'll find the link in my bio.

✨ Which reflection resonates with you most today?

I began practicing Kundalini Yoga in 2008 and became a certified Kundalini Yoga teacher in 2017.

Since then, I have maintained a dedicated daily practice.

Kundalini yoga is a whole body, mind, and spirit practice. It can allow you to tap into the peace, strength and courage that already resides in you. Kundalini Yoga has helped me navigate life, even through some of my most challenging times. It has given me tools to find steadiness, strength, and awareness when I needed them most.

For that, I am deeply grateful.

It is an honor to share this practice with others, and I hope you'll join me for "Unlocking Your Authentic Self," Wednesdays at 6pm at Heart Shine Yoga.

Whether you are new to yoga or have practiced before, you are welcome.

Sat Nam,
Kathy

Your heart works tirelessly for you every moment of every day. ❤️
One of the simplest ways to offer it a little support is through Legs Up the Wall (Viparita Karani).
As an RN and Yoga Therapist, I spent nearly 20 years working with individuals in the Ornish Lifestyle Medicine Program for heart disease. This gentle restorative pose was one of the practices participants looked forward to most.
Why?
🤍Encourages the nervous system to shift into "rest and digest"🤍May help lower heart rate and support healthy blood pressure regulation🤍 Helps reduce pooling of blood and fluid in the legs🤍 Supports venous and lymphatic return🤍 Creates a deep sense of calm and restoration
But my favorite part isn't the physiology...
It's the invitation to pause long enough to ask your heart:
"What do you need to be healthy and whole?"
Sometimes the answer is simply...
Rest.
I've written a new blog sharing the science, the practice, and a heart-centered meditation you can try today.

Supported Fish Pose ✨
One of my favorite ways to end a yoga practice… supported fish pose with a bolster beneath the thoracic spine and a folded blanket supporting the head and neck. As the body begins to soften, the nervous system often does too.
A beautiful pose to…🤍 Help counter the rounded shoulders and forward posture so many of us develop from sitting at computers or looking down at our phones.🤍 Create more space for the breath to move.🤍 Invite the body out of fight or flight and into rest and digest.
Such a nice way to close our "Rhythm of the Heart" Vinyasa practice. I love that this class includes both effort and ease before settling into relaxation.
Thank you, Tiffany Marie Polischuk-Sawtschenko , for weaving these restorative moments into class. They make such a difference. 💚
