Due to everything happening, in an abundance of caution, I am strongly recommending that my clients consider communicating with me using Signal for voice, text, and video calls rather than the standard methods we have been using heretofore.

To me, using Signal is like wearing a seatbelt. I hope I never need a seatbelt, but I buckle up whenever I am in a car.

I think I have needed a seatbelt twice in my lifetime, and it’s been over 50 years since the last time I benefited from wearing one.

So, I’m buckling up my personal and professional communication security (comsec). Hopefully, it will be unnecessary.

Signal is free and simple to use. Ultimately, it’s your decision, but I would love for all of us to talk via the most secure system that is pragmatic for individuals to use.

Just a little clarification about SignalGate from Alt National Park Service.

I communicate using Signal when my clients are dealing with situations where they are vulnerable to subpoenas from the prying eyes of the government. These days, that means pretty much anyone who isn’t a white supremacist patriarchal male- everybody else is a target now.

Some, like trans folks and people dealing with immigration issues, are targets right now. Others of us, like me, a trans healthcare provider, will be targeted later.

Unfortunately, in an authoritarian state, we all would benefit from learning and practicing the principles of OPSEC, COMSEC, and INFOSEC. Google it.
