Don’t win on the job and lose at home.

It does not matter how respected you are in the fire service or how strong your reputation is at the firehouse if your home is falling apart.

That is not success.

That is a trade that will eventually leave you empty while quietly stealing your soul.

Titles, recognition, and reputation may follow you through your career, but they will not sit at your dinner table, raise your kids, or hold your marriage together.

When it is all said and done, your family will not remember the kind of firefighter you were. They will remember the kind of husband you were, the kind of father you were, and how you showed up when it mattered most.

That is the legacy that lasts.

The job will replace you the day you retire, but to your family, you are irreplaceable.

Be all in at the firehouse when you are there. But when you come home, be fully present. Too many of us bring the job back with us. Physically home, but mentally somewhere else. And the people who love us feel that absence.

Be home when you are home.

Don’t win on the job and lose at home.

“What does it profit a man to gain the whole world, yet forfeit his soul?”
