If you've had uterine fibroid embolization (UFE) and are wondering about your chances of getting pregnant, a major clinical trial called the FEMME study gives us some real answers.

The short version: Pregnancy after UFE is possible. Over four years, 15 pregnancies occurred in the UFE group compared to 7 in the myomectomy (surgery) group. However, researchers caution that this difference wasn't large enough to be conclusive — the numbers were simply too small to say one treatment is definitively better than the other for fertility.

The reassuring part? UFE did not appear to harm the hormones linked to egg supply, meaning it likely isn't damaging your fertility in that way.

Bottom line: Both UFE and myomectomy remain valid options for women who want a future pregnancy. If having children is a priority for you, have this conversation with your doctor before choosing a fibroid treatment — because the evidence supports keeping both options on the table.

July is Fibroid Awareness Month, a time to shed light on a condition that affects up to 80% of women by age 50 and is one of the leading causes of hysterectomy in the U.S. Uterine fibroids can cause heavy bleeding, pelvic pressure, frequent urination, and painful periods—but surgery is not the only option.

Uterine Fibroid Embolization (UFE) is a minimally invasive, image-guided treatment that blocks blood flow to fibroids, causing them to shrink while preserving the uterus.
