"Bunions always require surgery."
Bunions are the result of genetics, biomechanics, and shoe selection. They can be treated with bunion splints, padding the area, and wider shoe gear. Some patients also develop arthritis in the big toe joint which can be treated with an injection if the joint is painful. Surgery is not recommended if the bunion is not painful as most patients will have some level of intermittent pain after surgery. It's important to discuss all non-surgical treatment options with your doctor before opting for surgical correction. If you have questions about your bunion, call to schedule an appointment with one of our board certified doctors.
