💙 Remembering Dr. Richard P. Dickey 💙

As we celebrate the 50th Anniversary of The Fertility Institute, we are taking a moment to honor our founder, Dr. Richard P. Dickey.

For thousands of families across Louisiana and the Gulf South, Dr. Dickey was more than a physician. He was a source of hope during some of life's most difficult moments. He listened, encouraged, educated, and helped make parenthood possible for countless people who feared it might never happen.

From founding Louisiana's first fertility clinic in 1976 to helping bring the first IVF baby in Louisiana and the Gulf South into the world, Dr. Dickey's impact on reproductive medicine was extraordinary. Yet those who knew him often remember something even more important: his kindness, compassion, and genuine care for every patient who walked through our doors.

Today, his legacy lives on through the families he helped create and through the physicians who continue the mission he began: Warren "Jay" Huber, MD, Peter Lu, MD, Ronald Clisham, MD, Nicole Ulrich, MD, and Stacy Scheib, MD, MIGS Surgeon.

As we honor Dr. Dickey, we'd love to hear from those whose lives he touched.

Happy June 1st! We're so excited to welcome you to Pride Month and to celebrate LGBTQ+ Families Day! 🩷🏳️‍🌈

This meaningful day was created by Dana Rudolph of Mombian.

More than 20 years ago, she and her partner faced difficult parentage challenges when they used reciprocal IVF to have their son. She created this day to honor every family built on that same love and devotion.

LGBTQ+ families face unique hurdles on the road to parenthood, and yet you persevere and build your families anyway.

That incredible dedication means your children will ALWAYS know, without a doubt, that they were wanted and hoped for.

As a fertility practice, we have a front-row seat to how families are made, and we know with certainty that love makes a family. 🩷

All month long, we'll be sharing pride themed content to celebrate, because we believe honoring LGBTQ+ families means more than displaying rainbow flags every June. It means doing the work all year.

At FINO, a First Fertility practice, we walk the walk by being FertilityEquity Culturally Competent Care Certified, using inclusive language on our forms, and helping patients navigate Louisiana specific laws around family building.

We're honored to have received the REI Protect Seal of Approval for the second year in a row.🏆

The REI Protect Seal of Approval is given to fertility clinics and IVF labs that meet a higher level of safety and care standards in reproductive medicine.

To earn it, a clinic must have board-certified doctors who are members of SART, hold proper accreditation, and have a strong safety record.

The IVF lab is reviewed separately and must also meet strict requirements, including special accreditation, CLIA certification, advanced embryo storage monitoring, and electronic tracking systems.

Every single year, our clinic and lab are reviewed again to make sure we are still meeting every standard.

Dr. Lu has been a cornerstone of The Fertility Institute, a First Fertility practice, bringing his expertise as a board-certified Reproductive Endocrinologist and Fertility Specialist to our New Orleans and Mandeville clinics.

Since beginning his practice in 1996, he has dedicated his career to helping families grow through advanced treatments like IVF, ICSI, and fertility preservation.

His commitment to building trust, explaining complex solutions clearly, and supporting the emotional well-being of his patients is why he has been named a Castle Connolly Top Doctor for 2024, 2025, and 2026.

We are also deeply grateful for the incredible team that makes this practice feel so supportive and special every single day.
