One of my clients loves one particular flavor of smoothies (made of preferred fruits) but struggles to try any other flavors at the smoothie shop. Unknown and non-preferred fruits and veggies in a smoothie can be intimidating! We spent this therapy session creating smoothies from scratch using fresh ingredients, and my client was able to:

🍵 Learn the recipe of a smoothie (the ingredients).
🍵 Explore each ingredient individually via sight, touch, and smell.
🍵 Have control over which ingredients enter the blender (preferred vs. non-preferred ingredients).
🍵 Have control of the quantity of each ingredient in the blender.
🍵 Pour the amount they would like to try without any pressure to sip or drink more than they are comfortable with.

We tried 4 different unique combinations and my client sipped each one and enjoyed each one! We even made an agreement that they would try a new flavor next time at the smoothie shop! (That was their idea because of how well this Feeding Therapy session went and how comfortable they now feel with non-preferred ingredients in smoothies!)

Seeing kiddos grow and progress with their speech and language skills is very rewarding - but it's also bittersweet when they meet their goals and "graduate" from therapy! I am grateful to work with so many amazing clients and their families.
