In behavior science, we know that reinforcement delivered close in time to a behavior strengthens that behavior. This Friday, that behavior is showing up and getting through a hard, new, uncertain week.
Tonight, make it a point to:
π Name specifically what you noticed: "You got up every day even when it was hard." "You tried even though it was new." "You kept going on Wednesday when homework felt like too much."
π Celebrate in whatever way fits your family, a special dinner, a later bedtime, a movie pick, a walk for ice cream.
π¬ Ask a reflection question: "What's one thing this week that surprised you?"
π«Ά Let them feel proud, don't rush past it.
Reinforcement isn't just a behavior tool. It's how we teach children that their effort matters, that hard things are worth doing, and that you notice.
They made it to Friday. So did you. That's worth something. π
