Edit to say no one SHOULD be communicating that you’re the problem with your child. I recognize that many people have unfortunately been told that. The other edit is that at PCIT305, we will NOT tell you that you are the problem, because we are so excited about all of the parents and caregivers who show up to do this hard work with their kids. Caregivers are the most important people in a child’s life and we want to harness that to help improve the whole family’s lives.

This book is a tough one to read because it’s so powerful. Written from a dog who has died to his owner about grieving the loss. Anyone who has ever lost a pet will find the language used to be touching and accurate to the feeling of losing such a close companion

In honor of Autism Acceptance month, we wanted to share a book written by a child with autism about his experience of feeling different around neurotypical children his age. It’s so important that when we’re learning about others with different lived experiences from our own, that we center and lift up the voices of those with true lived experience. Then we don’t assume we know what it’s like to live as them.

This has always been one of my favorite children’s books - it teaches kids in a very simple way how to express gratitude for your body for what it allowed you to do during the day. Thank you heart for beating so I can move. Thank you head for helping me do my homework. Thanking yourself builds both gratitude and self compassion at the same time ❤️
