Research is where better questions become better patient care.

Proud of our residents, medical students, and research fellows for representing our team at the University of Miami Department of Orthopaedics Sama Annual Research Competition. Their work reflects the future of orthopaedic innovation: thoughtful clinical questions, strong collaboration, and a commitment to improving outcomes for our patients.

Grateful to our faculty mentors, the sama family for their support , and the entire department for supporting the next generation of orthopaedic researchers.

Receiving the Otto Aufranc Award for this paper is deeply meaningful to our group. More than recognition for a study, it represents the kind of work that matters most to me in arthroplasty—questioning assumptions, staying grounded in evidence, and always keeping patient safety first.

One of the reasons this paper is so important is that iodine is not a minor part of our workflow. Povidone-iodine and other iodophor-based antiseptic measures are a cornerstone of infection prevention in total joint arthroplasty and are used to help reduce the risk of surgical site infection and periprosthetic joint infection.

In this prospective observational study, we followed 1,211 primary TJAs, including 37 patients labeled as iodine-allergic, and observed no perioperative allergic reactions despite using the standard iodine-based perioperative protocol.

For me, that is the heart of the message: patients should not lose the benefit of proven antiseptic strategies because of labels or assumptions that may not reflect true clinical risk. I am proud of this team, grateful for this recognition, and hopeful that this work helps move us toward safer, more consistent, evidence-based care.

Honored to help lead this important conversation on surgeon well-being in arthroplasty.

Its a true privilege to lead the AAHKS Well-Being and Burnout Task Force, at the request of our AAHKS President, , alongside an outstanding group of leaders in the field. This work is deeply meaningful because burnout is not just about the individual surgeon—it affects our teams, our patients, and the future of our specialty.

As arthroplasty continues to advance, we must also remain committed to preserving the people driving that progress. Supporting surgeon well-being, improving ergonomics, reducing unnecessary burdens, and building a healthier culture are essential steps for the future of orthopaedics.

Grateful to collaborate with such a thoughtful and committed group on this important initiative.

Wrapping up an incredible Hip Meeting in Barcelona. It was a true honor to share the stage with Dr. Parvizi, Dr. Haddad, and so many outstanding leaders from the European hip community.

Grateful for the exchange of ideas, the challenging discussions, and the shared commitment to advancing hip reconstruction for our patients.

Barcelona reminded me once again: innovation moves faster when masters, mentors, and colleagues come together.

Presenting on technology in joint replacement at Digital EyeCon 2026 was a privilege. Sharing how AI, remote patient monitoring, and digital innovation are transforming orthopaedics alongside colleagues from Bascom Palmer Eye Institute and the University of Miami Department of Ophthalmology underscored how connected the future of medicine has become. The most meaningful advances happen when specialties learn from one another

AAOS 2026 recap: innovation, collaboration, and momentum.

Honored to receive The Hip Society’s 2026 Otto Aufranc Award presented by Dr. Michael D’Apuzzo, celebrate an incredible AALOS meeting, and share new research from the University of Miami Joint Replacement powerhouse.

Our team presented multiple posters and talks highlighting the work coming out of Miami, and we closed the week with a fantastic Alumni Night, reconnecting with colleagues, mentors, and friends across the orthopaedic community.

Grateful for the collaboration, the ideas, and the people pushing our field forward.

The work continues.

It’s truly inspiring to see how, even in the most challenging circumstances, the medical community in Ukraine continues to learn, grow, and strive for excellence. At the Ukrainian Trauma Congress, I was reminded that our shared mission—to improve patient outcomes and quality of life—transcends borders and adversity. I learned so much from the remarkable work being done in trauma care and innovation.
