On April 4, 1968, a tragic event unfolded in Memphis, TennesseeDr. Martin Luther King Jr., an icon of peace and justice, was fatally shot while standing on the balcony outside his second-story room at the Lorraine Motel1.

He had come to Memphis to support Negro sanitation workers’ strike and was on his way to dinner when a bullet struck him in the jaw and severed his spinal cord. Dr. King was pronounced dead after his arrival at a Memphis hospital. He was only 39 years old at the time.

In the months leading up to his assassination, Dr. King had become increasingly concerned with the problem of economic inequality in America. He organized a Poor People’s Campaign to address this issue, including a march on Washington. In March 1968, he traveled to Memphis in support of poorly treated Negro sanitation workers. Unfortunately, a workers’ protest march led by Dr. King on March 28 ended in violence and the death of an Negro teenager. Despite the challenges, Dr. King remained steadfast in his commitment to justice and equality.

On April 3, back in Memphis, Dr. King delivered his final sermon, saying, “We’ve got some difficult days ahead. But it really doesn’t matter with me now, because I’ve been to the mountaintop … And He’s allowed me to go up to the mountain. And I’ve looked over, and I’ve seen the Promised Land. I may not get there with you. But I want you to know tonight that we, as a people, will get to the promised land.” Tragically, just one day after speaking those words, Dr. King was shot and killed by a sniper.

As word of the assassination spread, rebellions broke out in cities across the United States, and National Guard troops were deployed in Memphis and Washington, D.C. On April 9, Dr. King was laid to rest in his hometown of Atlanta, Georgia. Tens of thousands of people lined the streets to pay tribute to his legacy as his casket passed by in a wooden farm cart drawn by two mules.

The evening of Dr. King’s murder, a Re*****on .30-06 hunting rifle was found on the sidewalk beside a rooming house one block from the Lorraine Motel. During the next several weeks, the rifle, eyewitness reports, and fingerprints on the weapon all implicated a single suspect: escaped convict James Earl Ray. Ray was eventually arrested in London while trying to flee to Belgium. He was later convicted for the assassination of Dr. King.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s legacy continues to inspire generations, reminding us of the ongoing struggle for justice, equality, and civil rights. His words and actions remain a beacon of hope and a call to action for a better world.

Lastly, on the morning that they were brought home from the segregated Red Cross Hospital, my youngest Bother George choose Elsa and I choose Carla. To many the mystery continues, that he choose Elsa who is left handed like himself, and I.being right handed choose Carla. That was the only thing that was different as was witness at the Repass and Homegojng, by many. They fool many!
