📣Call for Candidates: MASSW State Board Positions📣

MASSW is seeking dedicated members to run for two open State Board positions: PresidentElect and Secretary.

• PresidentElect Term: Begins September 1, 2026, serving for one year in this role, followed by service as MASSW President through June 30, 2029.
• Secretary Term: Begins July 1, 2027 and continues through June 30, 2029.

MASSW Board President
This position may be pursued through direct application or by nomination from a member in good standing.
Responsibilities include “overseeing of all committees on the Board” and “maintaining all Presidential information correspondence between professional organizations.”
Key Responsibilities
• Provide leadership and oversight for all MASSW committees.
• Maintain communication with professional organizations and partners.
• Appoint and support committee chairpersons.
• Oversee all contracts essential to MASSW operations, including renewals.
• Maintain a collaborative relationship with the statelevel lobbyist to ensure MASSW representation and advocacy.
• Support membership engagement and coordinate with all Board roles, including social media functions.
• Serve as the primary operational leader, ensuring the organization’s mission and vision are carried out with fidelity and integrity.
Ideal Qualifications
• Strong communication and problemsolving skills.
• Ability to facilitate collaboration across diverse groups.
• Commitment to upholding MASSW’s mission and organizational integrity.


MASSW Secretary
The Recording Secretary maintains the official records and legal documents of the Association. As described in the document, the Secretary “shall maintain custody of the current records and legal documents of the Association” and “take, keep, and maintain the minutes of meetings of the Board, general membership and Executive Committee.”
Key Responsibilities
• Maintain organized, uptodate records including:
o ByLaws
o Standing rules
o Policy statements
o Board policies
o Minutes and policy indexes
• Record and distribute meeting minutes (draft form) within three weeks of each Board meeting.
• Keep minutes and records in chronological order and update them annually.
• Maintain an index of policy resolutions and position statements to ensure continuity for future Boards.
• Make records available to members during Board meetings.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by the President or Board.

* Friend of School Social Worker Award: This could be a person, business, organization or agency that goes above and beyond to support MASSW and/or our core values and mission.
* Quality of Life Award: MASSW member that implemented a community wellness, outreach, prevention, or educational program that has greatly improved a school district or community.
* Career Achievement Award: MASSW member with a notable career worth recognizing.

The Office of Special Education (OSE) is looking for feedback from groups on the Special Education Advisory Committee regarding the use of service time ranges in IEPs.

OSE has identified that:
• currently, broad service time ranges lack clarity and don't always meet IDEA requirements for clear expectations,
• pulling out for high range of minutes can limit access to GE curriculum, and
• there are compliance risks with broad ranges, missing specifics on location & duration.

OSE is asking MASSW to comment generally on the use of ranges of service time. You can provide input at this link:
