🎒📚 2026 Back-to-School Backpack Program 📚🎒

Milford Youth & Family Services is now accepting registrations for our 2026 Back-to-School Backpack Program! This program helps ensure local students have the supplies they need for a successful start to the school year by providing a free backpack filled with school supplies.

Eligible students must be residents of Milford or attend a school in Milford and be entering Kindergarten through 12th grade. Registration is open through June 30, 2026, or until program capacity is reached.

⚡ E-Bikes Are Fun—Safety Comes First! ⚡
E-bikes are becoming increasingly popular among children and teens, providing a fun way to get around and stay active. However, safety should always come first.
🪖 Always wear a properly fitted helmet
👀 Stay alert and avoid distractions
🚦 Follow traffic laws and signals
🌙 Use lights and reflective gear when riding near dusk or at night
🚲 Ride at a safe speed and be aware of pedestrians and vehicles
Parents: Talk with your child about safe riding habits and make sure they understand the rules of the road before heading out.

🏖️Summer is almost here—and while many are thinking about beach days, the MHD Environmental Health Team is already hard at work monitoring Milford's recreational waters! 🌊☀️

Throughout the summer, our staff collects water samples at local beaches and monitors conditions to help protect public health. These routine tests help ensure residents and visitors can safely enjoy Milford's beautiful shoreline all season long.

🌡️ Heat Wave Alert for Milford Residents 🌡️

Governor Lamont has activated Connecticut’s Extreme Hot Weather Protocol from Thursday, June 11 at 10:00 AM through Sunday, June 14 at 6:00 PM as temperatures are expected to climb above 90°F with heat index values reaching 100°F or higher.

To help residents stay safe and cool, the following Milford Cooling Centers are available:

📍 Beth-El Community Kitchen

Open daily from 8:00 AM through dinner service (approximately 6:00–7:00 PM)

• Monday: 10 AM – 5 PM
• Tuesday: 10 AM – 8:30 PM

• Thursday: 10 AM – 8:30 PM

💧 Stay Safe During Extreme Heat
✔ Drink plenty of water, even if you don’t feel thirsty
✔ Limit outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day
✔ Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing
✔ Check on older adults, young children, and neighbors who may need assistance
✔ Never leave children or pets in parked vehicles

Milford was out in full force at the Mary Taylor Memorial Fair on the Green today and staff members from the Milford Health Department and Department of Human Services were right there in the middle of it, connecting with residents and community partners.

Community events like this are a great reminder of what makes Milford special. They provide an opportunity to share information, listen to residents, learn about community needs, and build the partnerships that help keep our community healthy, supported, and connected.
