Over 60% of people report feeling guilt and anxiety post holidays.

It is tempting to go all in on extreme workouts or fad diets to fight the guilt, but it’s not effective.

The best thing you can do is simply go back to your routine before the holidays and focus on adding new healthy habits.

Start small, don’t stress if you aren’t perfect, and celebrate progress.

That’s how we create habits that last all year… not just January.

Let’s change the narrative around “goals”. Save and share this with someone trying to improve!

Most goals today are either too vague or too tied to an outcome.

Example… most people say “I want to go to the gym more” (vague) or they say “I want to lose 20 pounds” (outcome)

The first one is not measurable and will likely not last long since you won’t know if you’re accomplishing it.

The outcome driven goal ignores the things you do to actually hit that goal.

If you lose 20 pounds by severely restricting calories and doing workouts you hate…

You’ll probably hit your goal but hate the lifestyle and stop when you get there.

Instead.. focus on a process driven goal tied to things you enjoy in your life.

If you want to work out more and get better body composition…

Choose a workout you enjoy (strength, running, dance cardio etc) and make your goal to do that 2-3x a week.

Not only are you more likely to get the outcome you want, but you will also enjoy doing it… which will be easier to sustain in the long run.

Building a long term habit will always outweigh hitting a number.

It’s time to do good AND love it at the same time.

Let’s ring out the New Year and leave behind some health myths that have been here for too long.

1. There’s nothing wrong with cardio, but resistance training (weights) has been shown to be as or even more effective in increasing metabolism and helping you achieve your weight loss goals. It’s also extremely valuable for protecting your joints, improving cardiovascular health, and boosting brain cognitively to live a long and happy life.

2. MORE is NOT better. It is better to get a couple high quality training sessions in a week and focus on moving more in daily life. Go for walks, get a standing desk, and don’t stress about not spending all your time at the gym.

3. Carbs are not “evil”. Some are certainly more valuable than others and we likely eat too many as a society in general, but that doesn’t mean you need to completely get rid of them. They are especially fantastic to refuel post workout. Also if you get hangry and tired without SOME carbs, then uhh keep eating them.

4. Diet culture has not helped us become healthier. Calories are important but you don’t need to cut it down to 1200 a day to get the body you want. Let’s make a resolution to stop focusing on restricting things and put the attention on adding things that provide us with more value. Eat more whole foods and cook your own meals. It is possible to eat good AND feel good.

Comment what other myths you want to stop hearing in the New Year and don’t forget to share this with a friend!
