Today our transplant team is at Fondy’s Farmers Market talking with community members about something that truly starts long before transplant — healthy food choices.

The foods we eat can have a profound impact on our overall health and play an important role in preventing or managing conditions like diabetes, kidney disease, liver disease and heart disease.

Our greatest hope is that one day fewer people will need our transplant program because more lives are protected through prevention and healthy living. Until that day comes, we’re committed to being there every step of the journey — supporting our community through education, prevention, treatment and when needed, the gift of transplantation.

Because caring for our community begins where health begins.

Nearly 90,000 people are waiting for the gift of a life-saving kidney transplant. For many, hope begins with one extraordinary person — a living kidney donor.

Living kidney donation is a safe option for many healthy adults, and donors return to living full, active, healthy lives after recovery. Yet the impact of that one decision lasts a lifetime. A single living donor can give someone the chance to watch their children grow up, return to work, travel, celebrate milestones and simply live without dialysis.

As a member of the National Kidney Registry (NKR), our living kidney donors also have access to Donor Shield®, one of the nation's most comprehensive living donor protection programs, providing financial and logistical support throughout the donation journey.

Donor Shield helps remove many of the barriers that can make donation feel overwhelming by offering benefits such as:
✅ Reimbursement for lost wages
✅ Travel, lodging and dependent care assistance
✅ Priority for a kidney in the unlikely event a donor ever needs one in the future

Donating a kidney doesn’t mean sacrificing your financial security or peace of mind. Through our partnership with the NKR, we're committed to making the living donation journey as safe, supported and convenient as possible.

If you've ever wondered whether living kidney donation is right for you, we'd love to answer your questions. Your gift could give someone years of life — and hope.

We are incredibly proud of our Froedtert & MCW Transplant team for representing our program at the 2026 American Transplant Congress (ATC)!

Our physicians shared their expertise on the national stage through an oral presentation and eight poster presentations, showcasing research that is helping advance the field of transplantation.

We had two oral presentations:
• "More NRP, Less DGF: Improved Outcomes in DCD Kidney Transplantation," presented by Drs. Asassfeh, Arpali, Dunn, Cooper and Rawashdeh.
• "Impact of National Policy Announcements on Deceased Donor Offers: FMCW QI Analysis," presented by Drs. Sultan, Cooper, Dunn, Dhingra, Thomas, Mascaro and Saeian.

Among our eight poster presentations were:
• "Undersized BSA Mismatch Predicts Poor Outcomes in Kidney Transplantation," presented by Drs. Asassfeh, Arpali, Dunn, Cooper and Rawashdeh.
• "Comparison of Long-Term Outcomes between Liver Transplantation and Liver Resection for Intrahepatic Cholangiocarcinoma," presented by Drs. Kimura, Asassfeh, Raigani, Cooper and Prasad.

We are also especially proud to celebrate Dr. Ty Dunn, who received ATC's Member Award: Pancreas Champion in recognition of her outstanding leadership and contributions to the Kidney-Pancreas Community of Practice. This well-deserved honor reflects her dedication to advancing transplant care and improving outcomes for patients nationwide.

Congratulations to all of our physicians, researchers and care teams for representing Froedtert & MCW with excellence. Your commitment to discovery, innovation and collaboration continues to improve the future of transplantation and the lives of the patients we serve.

Day 4 of the Transplant Games brought one of the most meaningful moments of the week: the Donor Tribute Ceremony.

Today, Team Wisconsin honored the organ, eye and tissue donors whose gifts made every event, every medal and every celebration possible. We also recognize the donor families whose courage and generosity continue to give others a second chance at life.

The Transplant Games are about more than competition — they are a celebration of life, legacy and gratitude.

To our donor heroes and their families: thank you. We carry your stories and honor your gifts every day. 💚💙

Day 3 of the Transplant Games is underway, and what an incredible week it has already been for Team Wisconsin! Yesterday brought a wave of excitement with so many of our athletes bringing home medals and making memories that will last a lifetime. 🏅💙💚

But today, we want to recognize a different kind of victory.

Our basketball team - made up of kidney, liver, heart and lung transplant recipients - may not have finished on the medal stand, but they demonstrated exactly what the Transplant Games are all about.

They played with courage. They played with heart. They celebrated every basket, every effort and every teammate. They cheered on their opponents with respect and sportsmanship and lifted each other up through both the tough moments and the successes.

The score won’t tell the full story. The full story is one of second chances, perseverance, friendship and gratitude for the gifts that made it possible for these athletes to step onto the court in the first place.

We couldn’t be more proud of this team and the example they set for all of us.

That’s what champions look like. 💚🏀💙

We’re only halfway through Day 1 of the Transplant Games, and Team Wisconsin already has a medal winner! 🏅🎉

While we love celebrating these incredible athletic achievements, the Transplant Games are about so much more than medals. This week is a powerful reminder of resilience, hope and second chances.

We celebrate the organ donor families whose loved ones gave the gift of life. We honor living donors who made an extraordinary choice to help another person. And we cheer on transplant recipients who have overcome incredible challenges to be here competing, connecting and living life to the fullest.

Every event, every finish line, every medal and every smile tells a story of generosity, courage and perseverance.

Congratulations to our first medalist, and good luck to all of Team Wisconsin as the competition continues! 💙💚
