Every family has one.

When I was pregnant with my son, someone told me that if I felt nauseous, I should put a little salt on the back of my hand and lick it.

I remember thinking, “That can’t possibly work.” 😅

Now, years later, as a doula, I find myself wondering…

How many pregnancy, birth, and postpartum traditions have been passed down for generations that sounded a little strange—but actually have some science behind them?

And how many were simply myths?

That’s what this new series is all about.

👇 Tell me one pregnancy, birth, or postpartum saying you were told or grew up hearing.

I’ll pick some of your favorites and explore what modern research has to say.

When I think about becoming a parent, one thing stands out:

So many people feel alone in experiences that are actually incredibly common.

The unexpected grief.
The identity shifts.
The moments of joy.
The moments of doubt.
The things nobody warned you about.
The things that surprised you.
The things that helped.

That’s why I’m starting a new series called Roots Conversations.

I’ll be talking with newer and seasoned parents about what they wish they knew, what challenged them, what changed them, and what helped them feel less alone.

Not expert advice.

Not perfect answers.

Just honest conversations about becoming a parent.

So I’ll start with a question:

What’s something you wish you knew before becoming a parent?

Hi, I’m Dani the person behind Cradle & Roots Birth Co.

Over the last 13+ years, I’ve supported families through newborn care, postpartum recovery, sleepless nights, transitions, uncertainty, growth, and those moments where someone simply needed another steady human beside them.

Now, as a birth and postpartum doula serving Minneapolis and the Twin Cities, I’m creating a space centered around honest conversations about pregnancy, birth, postpartum, identity shifts, parenting, support, and the very human experience of becoming a family.

Not only is a baby being born, but so are parents.

This page will hold education, community, resources, reflections, and a new series I’m especially excited about called Roots Conversations- real conversations with newer and seasoned parents sharing what they wish they knew, what surprised them, what challenged them, and what helped them feel less alone.

I want this space to feel grounded, honest, supportive, and deeply human.

I’m so glad you’re here. XOXO🫶🏾
