October 17th is only a few short weeks away! I am so excited to have the opportunity to host a screening of the documentary Allowed to Birth: The Journey of a Global Midwife!

This documentary shines a light on the need for a drastic change surrounding the way women give birth. It highlights the need for informed consent and bodily autonomy. It depicts how so many women have been ignored, abused, and even traumatized by our current birth system.

Women are the only ones who can take birth back. Our voices matter. If you have ever felt like you weren’t heard, like your body was violated by a provider, like you were not respected and treated like an active participant in your birth experience, like you had to fight for the birth you desired, this one is for you.

Likewise, if you are a provider who genuinely desires to provide the best care possible to the women under your care throughout pregnancy and birth, we want you there too. We need providers who are willing to stand and make a change to better support the women in our communities.

We would love for you to join us for a morning filled with community conversation, light breakfast, swag bags, giveaways, a panel of local midwives, and a screening of this powerful documentary!

As a Christian doula, I believe that all children are gifts from God. That our bodies are divinely designed to create, carry, birth, and nourish our babies. God didn’t make a mistake when He created women. He made us to be able to give birth. Before there were hospitals, doctors, policies, or interventions. We were intentionally crafted for this.

This statement doesn’t ignore that pregnancy, birth, and breastfeeding don’t always go as planned. It doesn’t diminish the role of hospitals, doctors, and interventions. I am so grateful we have these things in place when emergencies do happen.

The point is that birth in and of itself is NOT an emergency. It is a beautiful, natural process. It is sacred. Holy. Set apart. Created for a divine purpose. When we take our hands off, we get a chance to see something truly beautiful.

When will we begin trusting again in the Creator? When will we give birth back to women?
When will women be allowed to birth… exactly the way they were designed to?

What does a postpartum doula do??

I mother the mother. But what does that look like exactly? It looks like asking what you need most that day, which is usually making sure you are eating a real meal (no, girl dinner doesn’t count) and getting enough rest. Other times it’s the dishes washed, a listening ear, or a shower.

When everyone else is asking about, taking care of, and fussing over the baby, I am there to take care of you. To check in on how you’re doing physically, emotionally, and make sure you aren’t forgotten in all the newborn excitement. I hear you. I see you. I want to support you.
